May 1, 2025 – Jersey City, NJ – Syed Waheeduddin Khadri, a Senior Vice President at Citi Bank USA, is making waves in the financial technology world. With 17 years of banking experience and a growing collection of research papers, Khadri has become a key voice in how AI is reshaping the financial industry.
Khadri’s work looks at how AI can make banking better for everyone. He studies how new technologies can make financial services safer and easier to use. His research covers important areas like blockchain, spotting fraud, machine learning, and automated trading.
“Banking is changing quickly as AI gets smarter,” Khadri explains. “I’m focusing on finding practical ways AI can improve security and make banking more user-friendly for customers.”
Building a Career Across Finance and Technology
As a Senior VP at Citi Bank USA in Jersey City, Khadri brings valuable experience from his previous jobs at major companies. Before joining Citi in 2019, he worked for over seven years as a Lead Business Analyst at LTI – Larsen & Toubro Infotech in Edison, New Jersey. Earlier in his career, he worked as a Senior Analyst at Wipro Technologies and as an Equity Research Analyst at both Kotak Mahindra and India Bulls.
Khadri’s education combines finance, technology, and research skills. He has an MBA from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of the Cumberlands, and another MBA in Accounting and Finance from the International Management Institute in Brussels. He started his education with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Commerce from Osmania University in Hyderabad. Now, he’s working toward his Ph.D. in Information Technology at the University of the Cumberlands, focusing on how AI can create new products in financial technology.
Groundbreaking Research Contributions
Khadri has also contributed significantly to the academic understanding of AI in finance through the publication of ten important research papers. These papers explore different ways AI is being used and can be used in financial services. His work offers useful perspectives for people working in banks, those developing technology for finance, and the regulatory bodies that oversee the financial industry as it changes quickly in the digital age.
His research was in important topics such as:
- The impact of AI-driven robo-advisors on investment decision-making
- Integration of artificial intelligence in global banking platforms
- Benefits and challenges of AI implementation in Fintech
- Biometric authentication systems and banking security measures
- Deep learning applications for high-value financial transactions
- Early detection and prevention of financial crimes using enhanced AI
- Blockchain technology for secure banking transactions
- Machine learning approaches to fraud detection
- AI-based decision frameworks for e-commerce security
- Integration of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) with AI and machine learning
Khadri also has three papers accepted for the IEEE CSCT2024 conference. These focus on making banking safer with better cybersecurity, multi-factor login systems, and smart use of AI. He’s also sent three papers to the IEEE ARIA2024 conference, covering how AI can improve banking work, predict trends, and help with smarter trading.
Pioneering Work in Fraud Detection and Prevention
One of Khadri’s most impactful research areas focuses on developing advanced systems for identifying and preventing financial crimes. His paper “Fight Against Financial Crimes – Early Detection and Prevention of Financial Frauds in the Financial Sector with Application of Enhanced AI” explores how machine learning algorithms can recognize suspicious patterns and anomalies that might indicate fraudulent activity.
“Financial institutions face increasingly sophisticated threats,” Khadri explains. “By leveraging artificial intelligence, we can create systems that not only respond to known fraud patterns but can adapt and identify new threats as they emerge.”
Enhancing Security Through Advanced Authentication
Khadri’s work on biometric authentication and multi-factor security systems addresses critical vulnerabilities in digital banking. His research evaluates various approaches to verification, from fingerprint and facial recognition to behavioral biometrics that analyze typing patterns and device handling.
“As more financial services move online, traditional password protection is no longer sufficient,” says Khadri. “My research examines how we can create layered security approaches that are both highly secure and user-friendly.”
Looking Toward the Future of Banking
Working on his Ph.D. while at Citi Bank, Khadri is always looking into new technologies that could really change how financial services work. Right now, he’s studying things like how quantum computing might affect the way financial data is kept secure, and how we can use natural language processing to make customer service better.
“The next decade will bring unprecedented changes to banking technology,” Khadri predicts. “Financial institutions that successfully integrate AI capabilities while maintaining robust security measures will define the future of the industry.”
Experts in the field see Khadri’s work as especially important because he connects what’s studied in theory with how things work in the real world. Because he’s both a researcher and works in a bank, he has a special understanding of how to actually use new technologies in existing financial institutions.
