Payments and fintech
Card processing fees, interchange-plus pricing, chargebacks, surcharges, failed-payment recovery, downtime cost, FX margins, money transfer costs and the licences a fintech needs.
Payments are priced in fractions of a percent that add up to real money at volume. These calculators put a number on processing fees, FX spreads, chargebacks and outages, and two compliance checkers map the licences and sandboxes fintechs need across twelve jurisdictions.

Common questions
Payments and fintech: the questions people ask
- What is interchange-plus pricing?
- The card network’s interchange fee passed through at cost, plus a fixed processor markup. It is usually cheaper than a blended flat rate above a modest volume; the calculator compares both on your mix.
- Can I add a surcharge for card payments?
- Banned for consumer cards in the UK and EU; capped at cost in Australia and Canada; capped at 3–4% and banned in a few US states. Commercial cards differ.
- How much does a chargeback really cost?
- The refunded sale plus a fee of $15–$100, lost goods and staff time, and a higher processing rate if your ratio rises above about 1%.
