Can AI Predict a Plumbing Disaster Before It Happens?

The early signs of plumbing problems are recognizable when you see things like small leaks underneath the sink, a running toilet, and unusual changes in water pressure. Of course, not all signs of plumbing problems are easily visible to the human eye. Many people don’t even notice any signs of a pending plumbing disaster because the leaks and irregularities exist in places where you cannot easily see them. That is why modern plumbing systems are starting to be built with artificial intelligence (AI) to help homeowners identify small plumbing issues and predict potential plumbing disasters before they occur.

AI technology depends on information from smart sensors installed at various points throughout the plumbing system. AI cannot make useful predictions or recommendations without getting information from these sensors. The more sensors you have installed, the more information you will receive about potential abnormalities and predictive maintenance. 

Smart sensors are installed near water heaters, washing machines, toilets, sinks, and other locations with water usage. They are also installed at the main water supply line to detect the water flow and pressure throughout the entire home. So, whether there is a leak coming from a pipe or appliance, the AI will be able to detect a problem by gathering data from a combination of smart sensors from within the system.

AI and smart sensors don’t eliminate the need for professional plumbing services. On the contrary, they will basically inform you when it is the best time to call a professional plumbing service for assistance. The AI serves as a data collector and analyzer, but it doesn’t actually fix any plumbing problems. You will always need a professional plumber to do that for you.
