Why It Doesn’t Make Sense to Be a Nurse Anymore: How Geneve Buquing Transformed from a Surgical Triage Nurse into an Unstoppable Force in the Property Business

After years of gruelling shifts on the NHS frontline, Geneve Buquing reached breaking point. The long hours, mounting pressure, and emotional toll left little time or reward for herself. Today, her life looks very different. She is an accomplished property entrepreneur with a growing multi-million-pound portfolio and a mission to inspire others to take control of their financial futures.

A Career of Service, But at What Cost?

For years, Geneve devoted herself to patient care, often working 12-hour shifts that blurred into nights of exhaustion.

“We give everything emotionally, physically, and mentally, but the pay just doesn’t reflect it,” she explains. “You can work overtime, take extra shifts, and still feel like you’re getting nowhere. When pay finally increases after years of campaigning, most of it goes straight back in taxes. You never really win.”

Despite her dedication, the reality behind the uniform was stark: relentless responsibility, minimal recognition, and financial stagnation.

“It’s disheartening,” she adds. “You pour your heart into helping others, but you’re barely supporting yourself. I started asking, “What’s the point of working so hard if I still can’t live the life I want?”

A Turning Point

The question became a catalyst for change. While still nursing full-time, Geneve decided to explore property investment, starting with a modest five-bed rent-to-rent property in Oxfordshire. She leased the home from a landlord and used it to house a team of overseas contractors working locally.

“It wasn’t glamorous. I learned to paint walls and manage repairs myself,” she recalls. “But when the first payment hit my account while I was on shift, it changed everything. I realised money could work for me, even while I was working for someone else.”

That moment sparked a complete mindset shift and the beginning of a new chapter.

From Shifts to Systems

Within just 18 months, Geneve transformed her sideline project into a thriving serviced accommodation business generating steady cash flow and independence.

“There were nights I’d finish a 12-hour shift and then work on my property business during the day,” she says. “I was tired, but each effort brought me closer to freedom.”

Her growing success soon drew attention.

“At first, some colleagues doubted me,” she admits. “Now they ask how to start in property themselves. It’s a full-circle moment, and it feels amazing to inspire others.”

Redefining Freedom

Today, Geneve no longer depends on her nursing income. Her property business provides stability, flexibility, and the freedom to choose how she spends her time.

“Most people can’t afford to stop working or even reduce their hours,” she explains. “But I’ve built a business that gives me choice. I can say no to extra shifts without worrying about bills. That’s not luck, that’s consistency, planning, and belief.”

Although she remains proud of her nursing background, Geneve acknowledges that property has given her something the NHS never could—control.

“Nursing taught me compassion and resilience. Property gave me time and autonomy. I’ll always be grateful for both.”

The Next Phase: From Rent-to-Rent to Ownership

Having mastered the rent-to-rent and serviced accommodation model, Geneve is now entering the next phase of her property journey, acquiring and developing her own assets.

Her current projects include buying and refurbishing three-bed family homes across Oxfordshire and the Midlands, transforming them into high-quality rentals and serviced units.

“Rent-to-rent was my training ground,” she says. “It taught me business, systems and service. Now my focus is on ownership, buying undervalued properties, adding value through renovation, refinancing, and reinvesting. It’s about building long-term wealth and leaving a legacy.”

This strategic shift from control to ownership marks a new milestone for Geneve — one that blends business growth with generational impact.

Guided by Mentorship

Geneve credits much of her transformation to Samuel Leeds, one of the UK’s leading property investors and educators.

“I wouldn’t be where I am without Samuel’s mentorship,” she says. “His training completely changed how I think about money, business, and life. He didn’t just teach property, he taught mindset.”

A Message of Empowerment

For Geneve, success isn’t defined by job titles or status but by peace and freedom.

“Success is waking up and choosing how to live, to work, to rest, to be with those I love. That’s real success.”

Her advice to other professionals, especially nurses who feel overworked or stuck, is both simple and powerful:

“You don’t have to quit your job tomorrow. Start small. Learn, act, and build something on the side that gives you options later. The only difference between me and anyone else is that I decided to start.”

 A Story of Transformation

Geneve Buquing’s journey from nurse to property entrepreneur is more than a career change. It’s a story of empowerment, resilience, and vision. Through consistency, courage, and smart mentorship, she has built not just a property business but a life on her own terms, and she’s only just getting started.
