Web3 Giants Launch $100 Million Inevitable Games Fund

Immutable and King River Capital, assisted by Polygon Labs, have collaborated to introduce the Inevitable Games Fund (also known as “the Fund” or “IGF”), according to a PR Newswire report.

TakeAway Points:

  • Polygon (MATIC) Labs has collaborated with King River Capital and Immutable on a Web3 gaming fund.
  •  The web3 gaming giants will provide deep insights and resources that IGF utilizes to find high growth possibilities for investors.
  • The report also stated that this current collaboration is the most recent in Polygon’s extensive history of gaming partnerships.

Web3 Gaming Fund

The web3 gaming titans Immutable and Polygon Labs provide deep insights and resources that IGF, a first-of-its-kind ecosystem-agnostic fund, uses to find high growth possibilities for investors.

King River Capital will oversee the Fund’s investment process in conjunction with Immutable and Polygon Labs, which will contribute important sourcing and web3 gaming know-how.

According to the report, IGF is evidence of the partners’ dedication to promoting growth and innovation in the web3 gaming industry. The Fund will have a US$100 million final fund size cap. It is a privately provided fund that is exclusively available for investment by specific categories of professional and sophisticated investors.

Assets Stages

The Fund has stored seven early stage assets, including Pixelmon, the first fully decentralised Web3 game intellectual property in history, and has already discovered a robust pipeline of investment opportunities.

  • In the open-world combined arms game Metalcore, players can take on AI-enhanced foes and participate in large-scale player-versus-player (PVP) matches. In large-scale battlegrounds where crazed gamers compete for their factions in territorial conquest, players can engage in foot combat as well as operate an extensive variety of combat vehicles and enormous mechs.
  • One of the most eagerly awaited immutable platform games of the year, Guild of Guardians, has already garnered over a million pre-registrations before its release in Q2 2024.
  • Team deathmatch gameplay is combined with a Hollywood-style animation in My Pet Hooligan.

The report also noted that combining Immutable and Polygon Labs’ web3 gaming deal flow and digital asset expertise with King River Capital’s venture and digital asset investing experience makes the Fund uniquely positioned to find best-in-class investment opportunities across the multi-hundred billion dollar global video game industry.

Regardless of the platform, King River will oversee the distribution of IGF cash among leading game studios, web3 infrastructure, and immersive gaming experiences that are thought to revolutionise the digital entertainment market.

Immutable and Polygon’s combined market share

Leading cryptocurrency market intelligence company Messari recently estimated that Immutable and Polygon’s combined market share represents over 70% of all blockchain game development, coming off a year of notable industry growth.

Zeb Rice, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at King River Capital, highlighted that spending on video games exceeds the combined global revenue from movies, streaming TV, and the music industry.

“Just as mobile gaming went from virtually zero in 2008 to 79% of gamers playing mobile today, we believe a similar shift has only just begun with web3 technology. The Fund provides investors with an opportunity to gain unique access to the best web3 gaming projects globally and is designed to benefit from this multi-hundred billion dollar shift in spending on this disruptive new technology.” Rice added.

Commenting on the launch of the Fund, Robbie Ferguson, President and Co-Founder of Immutable, said: “We are excited to be launching this pioneering fund in partnership with King River Capital and assisted by Polygon Labs. Our combined expertise, global relationships, and industry reach ideally position the Fund to identify and invest in the best web3 gaming and gaming infrastructure opportunities globally.”

However, sources say since 2018, the sector has garnered around $19 billion in investments. In 2023, blockchain gaming related rounds totaled $1.7 billion. A substantial part of money has flowed to the 270+ blockchain games in development on Immutable.
