Why did Microsoft partner with Cognizant?

The technology company Microsoft, at TEANECK New Jersey, announced in a press release on Monday that it has partnered with Cognizant, the information technology services and consulting company, with the aim of making Microsoft’s generative AI and Copilots available to millions of users, changing enterprise business operations, improving employee experiences, and increasing cross-industry innovation.

According to the report, with the combined effort of the two companies, they will be able to contribute to the projected $1 trillion [1] that AI is expected to inject into the U.S. GDP over the next ten years. This partnership has the potential to increase the adoption and innovation of AI in India. AI is expected to add USD 450–500 billion to India’s GDP by 2025, accounting for 10% of the country’s USD 5 trillion GDP target, as stated in the press-release.

Judson Althoff, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Microsoft, said that their partnership with Cognizant will help organizations harness generative AI to transform business operations and enhance employee experiences.

“Our expanded partnership with Cognizant will help organizations harness generative AI to transform business operations, enhance employee experiences, and deliver new value for customers. By combining Cognizant’s industry expertise with Microsoft’s Copilot capabilities—including Copilot for Microsoft 365 and GitHub Copilot—we will help drive AI adoption and innovation for millions of users across its network.” Judson said.

Ravi Kumar S., CEO of Cognizant, said in a statement that generative AI can be a game changer for every business in every industry, and that’s why they are investing $1 billion in generative AI over the next three years.

“Generative AI can be a game-changer for virtually every business in every industry, opening up new possibilities for innovation, efficiency and growth. That’s why we are investing $1 billion in generative AI over the next three years and leading the development of new research to explore its potential for our clients, their employees and end customers. We’re committed to helping them harness the power of generative AI at scale, and Microsoft Copilot is a proven tool that can bring transformative gains, unlocking talent and potential in ways we can only imagine.” said Kumar.

Benefits of the Partnership

The IT and consulting company has purchased 25,000 Microsoft 365 Copilot seats for Cognizant associates, along with 500 Sales Copilot seats and 500 Services Copilot seats, to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and transform customer experiences. They will also work to deploy Microsoft 365 Copilot to a million users within their global 2000 clients and across 11 industries, as stated in the report.

According to the report, 35,000 Cognizant developers have been trained on Github Copilot through Cognizant’s Synapse skilling program, with an extra 40,000 developers slated to receive training.

Microsoft said it will collaborate with Cognizant to deliver industry-specific solutions, using Copilot Studio (a platform that allows users to create and customize their own industry- and business-function-specific Copilots) across industries such as retail and consumer goods, financial services, life sciences, manufacturing, communications, and media.

The collaboration between Microsoft and Cognizant marks a significant milestone in advancing the adoption of generative AI technologies.
