Almost a year after devastating floods swept through parts of Sumatra, the true work of rebuilding continues. When the floodwaters receded in November 2025, the immediate emergency phase ended. However, local communities were left facing a daunting reality. Schools were heavily damaged. Clean water infrastructure was completely destroyed.
To tackle these long-term challenges, Bybit Indonesia has partnered with Kitabisa, a prominent Indonesian fundraising platform. Together, they are rolling out a targeted recovery program focused entirely on restoring critical education and water facilities across North Sumatra and Aceh.
The initiative highlights a major blind spot in post-disaster recovery. Rebuilding does not stop when the news cameras leave. Essential community infrastructure often requires months of sustained investment before residents can actually return to their normal routines.
In Kabupaten Langkat, North Sumatra, the partnership is funding the complete renovation of two separate learning facilities.
The first is Yayasan Pendidikan Rahman El-Manaf Bubun, located in Desa Bubun. This school serves roughly 187 students from elementary through high school and employs 17 teachers. Because the area is highly vulnerable to tidal flooding, the building took a massive hit. Bybit and Kitabisa are stepping in to repair floors, repaint classrooms, and provide essential new equipment like desks, chairs, and whiteboards.
This specific school is a critical lifeline for the community. Most parents in the area work as fishermen and farmers. The institution provides education without charging tuition fees, making its survival absolutely vital for local families with limited resources.
The second school receiving support is SDN 057239 Sekoci, where approximately 90 students and 10 teachers have been struggling with flood damage. The restoration work there includes repairing ceilings, fixing ventilation systems, overhauling the electrical wiring, and completely refurbishing the campus library and religious studies room.
Vikra Ijas, the Co-Founder and CEO of Kitabisa, emphasized the importance of this long-term focus.
“Helping communities recover from a disaster requires sustained collaboration and an understanding of local needs,” Ijas explained. “Through this partnership, we hope to support students and teachers as they return to their daily learning activities and help families regain a sense of stability.”
The recovery effort also extends far beyond the classroom.
In Desa Balee Panah, Aceh, the floods completely wiped out the local clean water supply. To fix this, Bybit Indonesia and Kitabisa began constructing a new borewell in July 2026. The project is specifically designed to restore access to clean drinking, cooking, and washing water for approximately 144 households, directly benefiting over 440 individuals.
Lawrence Samantha, CEO of Bybit Indonesia, noted that the company wanted to focus strictly on practical, tangible needs rather than broad, undefined relief efforts.
“Education has always been an important part of Bybit’s journey, both in Indonesia and globally,” Samantha stated. “When we saw the impact of the floods in Sumatra, we wanted to look at how we could make a practical contribution, not only for children who need a safe and suitable place to learn, but also for families who need reliable access to clean water.”
This community initiative runs parallel to Bybit Indonesia’s operations within the country’s strictly regulated digital asset market. Bybit Indonesia operates under the direct supervision of the Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK). As Indonesia continues to formalize its crypto regulatory framework, with 27 approved digital-asset traders reported in the latest August 2026 sector update, licensed operators are increasingly leaning into local social impact efforts.
For the communities in Sumatra and Aceh, the result is highly tangible. Rebuilt classrooms bring children back to a normal routine. New borewells keep families healthy. It proves that corporate funding can successfully move past short-term emergency handouts to deliver lasting infrastructure exactly where it is needed most.
