What is the Rural Gigabit Voucher Scheme?
The Rural Gigabit Voucher Scheme is an initiative by the government of Singapore to expand the availability of gigabit broadband services to unserved and underserved areas and to encourage operators to invest in high-speed broadband networks and innovative technologies. Under the Rural Gigabit Voucher Scheme, operators can apply for vouchers to defray the cost of deploying gigabit broadband services in unserved or underserved areas. The government will provide $40 million worth of vouchers over the next three years. Who is eligible to apply for broadband vouchers?
If you are an ISP or WSP, you can apply for broadband vouchers to deploy gigabit services in unserved and underserved areas. If you are an end user, you can apply for broadband vouchers to help pay for the cost of acquiring gigabit services. To qualify for the vouchers, areas must be unserved or underserved. The following criteria must be met. – – The Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) network coverage in the area must be less than 2%. – The population density in the area must be less than 100 people per square kilometer.
Eligible service areas under the voucher scheme

The following areas are currently eligible for the Rural Gigabit Voucher Scheme. – Jurong – Let’s start with Jurong. There are two areas within the Jurong Regional Centre that are unserved. These are Jurong Gateway and Jurong Innovation and Industrial Park. – Singapore’s West – The rest of Singapore’s West is unserved. This includes the areas around Jurong. It also includes Brani and Jalan Jurong between Jurong and the Western Water Catchment, Bukit Batok and Bukit Gombak, Choa Chu Kang and Jalan Gombak, and the areas along the Pan-Island Expressway. There are also two underserved areas in Singapore’s West. These are the areas around Punggol and Seletar, and the stretch of land between the Western Water Catchment and the Singapore-Malaysia border.
