Proposed elevated passenger links could reduce journey times and connect resorts, residential districts and hillside areas
Nesara Bay City in South Lombok has expressed strong interest in exploring next-generation “string transport” technology as a potential passenger transport solution connecting the new city with surrounding resorts, communities and development areas.
The announcement follows news that Indonesia is preparing a feasibility study for what could become the country’s first string transport feeder line. The proposed 11.5-kilometre route would connect the LRT Haryamukti station with Taman Buah Mekarsari in the Greater Jakarta region.

According to technology developer Unitsky String Technologies, the feasibility process will examine passenger forecasts, technical and financial requirements, integration with existing public transport, and potential environmental and economic benefits. The proposed system uses electrically powered passenger vehicles travelling on elevated, tensioned rail structures.
Potential South Lombok passenger corridor
LUX Property Group says the technology could have significant potential for Nesara Bay City, its planned new city development in South Lombok.
One concept could involve an elevated passenger connection beginning near Amber Lombok Beach Resort, crossing the hills near Semara Estate and continuing to Nesara Bay City.
The technology may be particularly suitable for South Lombok’s terrain
Such a direct route could avoid the need to travel around the mountain, potentially reducing a journey that currently takes approximately 25 minutes. An elevated system could also provide greater connectivity across difficult hillside terrain while limiting the need for extensive new roads, subject to engineering, environmental and financial feasibility studies.
“This is precisely the type of forward-looking technology that should be considered when planning an entirely new city,” a LUX Property Group spokesperson said.
“Rather than allowing development to occur first and attempting to solve congestion later, properly planned cities have the opportunity to incorporate modern passenger transport corridors into their original masterplans.”
Connecting Nesara Bay City
Within Nesara Bay City, smaller elevated passenger routes could potentially connect the beachfront, town centre, residential estates, resort districts and hillside precincts.
The technology may be particularly suitable for South Lombok’s terrain, where conventional roads can require lengthy, winding routes around hills and valleys.
“South Lombok’s geography creates challenges, but it also makes innovative elevated transport especially worthy of investigation,” the spokesperson said.
“A direct passenger connection over difficult terrain could significantly improve access between developments while preserving more of the natural landscape.”
Connections from the Lembar area could also be examined as part of a broader regional passenger transport network, potentially improving access to Nesara Bay City for residents, workers and visitors.
Potential application in Nusantara
LUX Property Group separately believes string transport could have applications in Nusantara, Indonesia’s new national capital in East Kalimantan, should LUX proceed with its planned development project there.
Elevated passenger routes could potentially connect the proposed LUX development with other districts, transport hubs and projects throughout the wider Nusantara region.
“Indonesia is building the cities of the future, and those cities require transport blueprints designed for the future,” the LUX spokesperson said.
“We are very open to string transport and other advanced mobility systems being considered for Nesara Bay City in South Lombok and, separately, our proposed development in Nusantara. If supported by the necessary studies, this technology could contribute to a new model of intelligently planned and environmentally sensitive urban development.”
