AI is becoming an everyday business tool and a successful technology in implementation. The difficulty now lies not just in developing models that can make predictions or create content but also in keeping them at the cutting edge of technology. The challenge is not just to create a model that can make predictions or generate content but to ensure it is at the forefront of technology as organisations start implementing more advanced AI models. The need for evaluative, validatable and learnable systems has been growing in organizations.

Anne Okwuzi is a UK based data scientist and her professional interest lies in this area.

Anne is a specialist in data science, machine learning, AI systems and emerging large language model technologies. She has a background in statistical modelling, data engineering, and hands-on evaluation of production AI systems, along with the effective presentation of model behavior to technical and non-technical audiences.

As a Senior Machine Learning Data Associate II at Amazon in the United Kingdom, Anne has been involved in statistical validation of production AI outputs with Python and natural language processing techniques.

Her professional record showed she made a 82% contribution toward better platform performance. She also built automated data pipelines and evaluation methods for large production datasets, elevating pipeline quality to 98% and building a framework that was used more broadly within her team.

Another part of her work has been learning about the reasons that AI and data workflows fail.

Anne has been focused on looking past the outputs of the models themselves, to understanding the root causes of issues within complex data sets, and building scalable cloud solutions to leverage this understanding. This was her work in that area that brought the operational turnaround time down 67%.

Explainability has also been an important element of her work in the field of AI systems. She created metrics for measuring automated pipelines and flagging potential bias, to improve stakeholder understanding of what automated systems are producing.

Communication is also a strong interest for Anne in the development of AI.

Her experience covers generation of technical documentation, briefing non-technical stakeholders and business leaders about model behaviour. As organisations move forward and incorporate AI into their business-critical workflows, this capability to convert technical results into comprehensible information has become essential.

As she builds her career and her technical interests grow. She has done hands-on training on Amazon Bedrock, Bedrock Agents, Bedrock AgentCore, Strands Agents, as well as the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Anne has successfully created multi-agent systems, AI assistants, and even an MCP server that can register tools for AI model discovery and deployment, all through hands-on AWS workshops.

As the trend of agentic AI continues, data scientists and developers face a new set of challenges. Unlike a single model that is set to respond to a prompt, agentic systems might interact with tools, fetch data, and organise the several specialised agents.

Anne’s training has been an interest in what these systems do as opposed to them being abstract concepts.

This technical development is complemented by her academic background. She has an MSc in Data Science with Distinction from the University of Wolverhampton, which included an investigation into the optimisation of email marketing click rates through machine learning algorithms.

She is not only actively involved in AI in her work but also in her personal life.

Anne is an alumna of the University of Wolverhampton and took part in a Learning & Teaching conference panel which explored how AI can be implemented in higher education. Academic Integrity, Authentic Assessment and how students and teachers are adapting to learning with AI were discussed.

In the panel discussion, she spoke about the need for students and educators to critically utilize AI, assess AI-generated content, and apply AI to education in a way that doesn’t supplant critical thinking.

The talking points presented here emphasize another pattern in Anne’s work: technical advancement of AI goes hand-in-hand with questions regarding understanding and appraisal and uses of people using AI.

Combining technical development, explainability and communication with statistical validation, AI will be a vital part of business, education and professional life and practitioners with these abilities will be growing in importance in supporting organisations to use the technology responsibly.

The convergence of data science, emerging AI systems and real-world application remains a constant influence on Anne’s career trajectory.
