At Intertech Contracts, we are deeply committed to nurturing talent and offering opportunities for individuals to build meaningful careers. Two remarkable examples of this commitment are Apprentice Painter Holly Jordan and Finance Assistant Megan Dove, both of whom have overcome personal challenges and worked tirelessly to achieve incredible success in their roles. Their stories highlight the transformative power of apprenticeships, and the impact of support, determination, and resilience.
Holly’s Inspiring Path
Holly Jordan’s journey into the world of painting and decorating is far from ordinary. She faced significant personal hardships from a young age, including homelessness and instability. But at 17, Holly applied for an apprenticeship through Kenworthy House, driven by the desire to forge a better future for herself.
“From the age of 13, I was sofa surfing at friends’ houses, and when I met my partner, I moved in with them. By the time I turned 18, I was enrolled at Hull Training and Adult Education (HTAE), beginning my career,” Holly shares.
Despite the challenges she faced, Holly’s determination never wavered. With encouragement from her tutors Matt, Claire, and Carole at HTAE, she found the motivation to stay focused on her goals. Their belief in her potential gave Holly the confidence she needed to push forward.
“When I first applied to HTAE, I was in a difficult place—homeless and struggling. But I knew I wanted to achieve something. Within a year, I was working with a company that was actively seeking female decorators.”
Holly’s hard work has not gone unnoticed. In 2023, she was awarded HTAE Apprentice of the Year and received Special Recognition in the Intermediate Apprentice of the Year category at the EY Apprenticeship Awards 2024.
Her apprenticeship has not only brought career stability but also a deep sense of purpose.
“My employer has provided the reassurance and support I needed. I truly feel like a valued part of the team,” Holly adds.
Wayne Tompkins, Intertech Contracts’ Commercial Finance Manager, praises Holly’s work ethic:
“Holly has quickly become a beloved member of our team. She takes great pride in her work and is always willing to help others. We look forward to seeing where her career takes her!”
Having completed her Level 2 Painting & Decorating qualification and Level 2 English qualification, Holly is eager to continue growing in her field.
“My journey has been tough, but I wouldn’t change it. It proves that no matter where you start, with the right support and determination, anything is possible.”
Megan’s Career Growth
Megan Dove joined Intertech Contracts in 2016 as a Business Administration apprentice, unsure of what to expect from the role. However, she quickly adapted, acquiring the skills needed to thrive.
“My mind was like a blank canvas, but I soon began picking up all the knowledge I needed to succeed,” Megan reflects.
Her first apprenticeship, a Level 2 Business Administration qualification, lasted 12 months and combined four days of work with one day at college each week. After completing her apprenticeship, Intertech Contracts offered Megan a permanent position as an Office Administrator.
Determined to continue advancing, Megan pursued a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship, which lasted 18 months. Her dedication paid off, and she secured a stable role within the company. Now, after seven years of growth, she is beginning a Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor apprenticeship.
“This new qualification will help me develop a deeper understanding of the management role and how my decisions impact the business and my colleagues,” Megan explains.
Megan’s passion for her work and the supportive environment at Intertech Contracts have been instrumental in her career development.
“I’ve been part of this team for nine years, and the relationships I’ve built with my colleagues are amazing. Coming to work motivates me to keep progressing—I truly enjoy being here,” she says.
Megan also highlights the positive working relationship between the office staff and tradesmen, which helps the business operate efficiently and fosters a great team atmosphere.
The Power of Apprenticeships
Holly and Megan’s stories showcase the incredible potential of apprenticeships, offering valuable skills and opportunities for career growth. At Intertech Contracts, we believe in investing in people, supporting their development, and providing a strong foundation for success.
Both Holly and Megan have shown exceptional determination and resilience, proving that with the right support and a strong work ethic, anything is achievable. Their journeys inspire us all, and we can’t wait to see what they accomplish next.
