Google Cloud has introduced a new Web3 portal with resources for blockchain developers, including data sets and tutorials on creating nonfungible tokens (NFT). However, the reception within the cryptocurrency industry has been mixed.
TakeAway Points:
- Google Cloud recently launched a Web3 portal with testnet tools, blockchain data sets, and learning resources for developers, and it has received mixed reactions from the crypto industry.
- According to the report, developers can use testnet currencies and a variety of tools to launch and evaluate their decentralised apps on the Ethereum testnets, Holesky and Sepolia.
- Google added the ability to search wallet balances across several blockchains, including Bitcoin, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Polygon, and Fantom, to its list of capabilities.
Google Cloud’s New Web3 Portal
The new Web3 page from Google Cloud offers blockchain developers resources such as data sets and how-to guides for making nonfungible tokens (NFT). But opinions within the bitcoin community have not been unanimous.
Criticism Amid Launch
A few industry commentators have expressed dissatisfaction with the portal’s contents. Given the importance of Bitcoin, Unchained’s vice president of product marketing, Phil Geiger, chastised the lack of native support for both Lightning and Bitcoin.
“No native Bitcoin and Lightning support? It seems like an oversight to ignore the most important cryptocurrency,” Geiger stated in an X post on April 25.
In a similar vein, anonymous cryptocurrency trader MartyParty expressed displeasure with Google for what he saw as its perceived fall behind rivals.
“Not impressed that Google is way behind,” MartyParty told his 80,700 X followers on April 26.
Positive Reactions
Others, however, responded to the launch with greater openness. Ivaibi Festo, the founder of Mitroplus Labs, called the Web3 portal a “complete resource” in a post published on X on April 25.
On its website, it states that developers can use testnet currencies and a variety of tools to launch and evaluate their decentralised apps on the Ethereum testnets, Holesky, and Sepolia.
Additionally, it offers a study programme with tutorials on how to safeguard digital assets using multi-party computation, construct an NFT, and deploy Web3 loyalty programmes.
Google’s Latest Web3 Projects
This follows a number of recent initiatives by Google in the Web3 sector. Recently, Google added the ability to search wallet balances across several blockchains, including Bitcoin, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Polygon, and Fantom, to its list of capabilities.
Google changed its regulations at the start of 2024 to permit the promotion of some cryptocurrency products on popular search engines, like exchange-traded funds for Bitcoin.
Google seemed to be concentrating on forming alliances in 2023 in order to get ready for the portal’s introduction this year.
Blockchain Network Integration
With the integration of MultiversX with Google Cloud’s BigQuery data warehouse in October 2023, Web3 projects and users will be able to benefit from strong data analytics and artificial intelligence tools within the Google Cloud ecosystem.
September 2023, a month earlier, saw the addition of 11 blockchain networks to Google’s BigQuery data warehouse. Avalanche, Arbitrum, Cronos, Fantom, Near, Optimism, Polkadot, Polygon’s mainnet, Polygon’s Mumbai testnet, Tron, and Ethereum’s Görli testnet were among the new networks.
