Fundline Highlights the Role of Integrated Service Models in Fund Management

Guernsey fund platform Fundline positions integrated services as a solution to the operational burden of launching and running a fund

Fundline, a Guernsey-based umbrella fund platform, has outlined the role integrated service models can play in supporting investment managers with the practical requirements of launching and running a fund.

Setting up a fund requires much more than a clear investment strategy, with managers needing to consider aspects like fund administration, custody, legal advice, audit, and governance. Each function requires appropriate expertise and oversight, so managers establishing a fund for the first time may benefit from having those elements ready to go during the fund launch process.

How Bringing Core Fund Services Together Supports Streamlined Launches

Fundline’s model offers a comprehensive range of core services within an established Protected Cell Company (PCC) structure. This provides managers with access to an existing network of specialist providers, including:

  • Suntera Global, which provides fund administration services, supporting the accounting and administrative requirements associated with different fund structures and strategies
  • Butterfield Bank (Channel Islands), which provides custody services
  • Carey Olsen, offering legal advice covering areas including fund structure and formation
  • PwC, which provides audit services for investment funds
  • The Fundline board, which remains responsible for governance and oversight across the PCC

With these services already incorporated into the Fundline model, managers do not need to build an entirely new network of service relationships when establishing a fund. Additional services can also be considered if a fund has further requirements.

This may be particularly relevant for managers with an investment strategy ready to take to market who do not want to build a complete operational structure independently. Fundline’s model allows them to focus on their investment approach and investor requirements with the supporting fund infrastructure already in place.

The approach also allows each specialist provider to retain responsibility for its respective area of expertise. Integration does not mean that all services are delivered by a single organisation; rather, the different functions operate within the same wider fund structure.

Integrating Services Within a Protected Cell Company

Fundline operates as a Guernsey Protected Cell Company, with individual funds established as separate protected cells within the umbrella structure. Each fund remains legally distinct from the others, and from the umbrella structure, while certain services and resources can be used across the wider platform.

It is authorised by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC) as a Class B Collective Investment Scheme. Fundline’s model consolidates administrative functions across funds and allows individual funds to be priced according to their requirements.

For managers, the combination of an established fund structure and integrated service provision may offer an alternative to building a standalone fund and separately arranging each supporting service.

Fundline works with firms seeking dedicated fund cells, including discretionary fund managers, family offices and firms requiring feeder fund structures. These clients can include managers seeking Non-UCITS funds with regular pricing and liquidity, including structures commonly referred to as a ‘Fund of One’.
