Central government is continuing to spend Rs 10,000 crore per year on the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme

That’s great news because the scheme aims to provide affordable housing to low and middle-income individuals and families in India.

Now, there are two components of the PMAY scheme – PMAY-Gramin (for rural areas) and PMAY-Urban (for urban areas). In this article, let’s focus on the PMAY-Gramin component.

The PMAY-Gramin scheme is a government initiative launched in 2015 to ensure that everyone has access to basic amenities like water supply, sanitation facilities, and adequate living space at an affordable cost. The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries for the construction or up-gradation of their houses.

To apply for the PMAY-Gramin scheme, you just need to visit the official website at https://pmayg.nic.in/ and click on the “Apply Online” link. Then, you will need to provide your personal and contact information, as well as information about your household. Make sure to upload clear and legible scanned copies of documents like your Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, and Income Proof.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, which include belonging to the lower and middle-income groups and not having a pucca house in your name, you can receive a grant of Rs 1.20 lakh for the construction of a new house. The annual income of the family should be less than Rs 3 lakhs.

Additionally, the PMAY-Gramin scheme provides subsidies on home loan interest rates for those who want to avail it. The subsidy amount is calculated as a percentage of the interest on the home loan and is directly credited to the loan account of the beneficiary.

To calculate the subsidy amount, you can use the PMAY subsidy calculator available on the official website of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) or consult the bank or housing finance company where you have taken the loan.

In conclusion, the PMAY-Gramin scheme is a fantastic opportunity for low and middle-income individuals and families to construct or upgrade their houses in rural areas. The online registration process is simple, and the scheme provides a grant of Rs 2.67 lakh for the construction of a new house and subsidy on home loan interest rates. So, if you are eligible, go ahead and apply for the PMAY-Gramin scheme and make your dream of owning a house a reality!
