What a Clipping Agency Is (and Is Not)
A clipping agency takes a long video you already have and turns it into short clips. Real people post those clips on their own TikTok, Reels, Shorts and X accounts.
The long video can be a podcast, a live stream, a talk, or a product demo. You do not need to film a new ad. You pay for views that showed up on real accounts.
People use the same name for other jobs. Those jobs are listed below so you do not buy the wrong one.
Is clipping legit, or is it a scam?
The model is real. Brands pay. Creators post. Views can be counted.
The scam risk is not the idea. The risk is a bad vendor.
On Reddit, most “clipping is a scam” threads are about side jobs on bounty boards: slow payouts, blocked clips, fake view counts. That is a clipper problem.
A brand has a different test:
- Can you see the accounts that posted?
- Can you see how a view is counted?
- What happens if a post is deleted later?
- Do you get a say before a lot of clips go out?
If the answer is “trust us, here is a screenshot,” walk away. That is a number farm, not a desk.
What a clipping campaign is
A clipping campaign is one run of this work.
You send the video and a short brief: where to post, what the clips may say, what they must never say. The desk picks creators, cuts the first clips, and sends back a report of views.
One video becomes many posts. A campaign can start in a few days because the source is already filmed.
Brand threads on Reddit ask the same thing: does this actually work, or is it one lucky clip? One post is luck. Many posts across many accounts is a plan. That is the point of a campaign.
What a clipping agency is not
Not press clipping.
A press-clipping firm cuts your name out of newspapers and TV and files a report. A video clipping agency cuts your video and posts it. Same word. Different job. If the page talks about media monitoring, you are on the wrong result.
Not UGC.
UGC is a new video shot to your brief. Clipping uses a video you already have. You can use both. They are not the same line on an invoice.
Not one influencer post.
One big account. One post. One price. If that post dies, the spend dies with it. A clipping desk spreads many clips across many accounts.
Not a do-it-yourself board.
A bounty board lets you upload a brief and hope strangers post. You still brief them, check them, and chase fake views. An agency runs that desk for you. Whop-style boards sit here. You are the desk.
Not a view farm.
If you cannot see accounts, and nobody can explain the filter, you are buying a number.
Types of clipping agency
Same name. Four different jobs.
- Press clipping — coverage reports from newspapers, TV and the web.
- UGC studio — new videos shot to a brief. You still have to push them out.
- Marketplace / bounty board — you post the brief and run the clippers.
- Managed clipping desk — you send the video and the rules. The desk posts and reports.
Lumina Clippers is type 4: distribution. No new shoot. No ad account. The job is getting a video you already have onto creator accounts.
The table below is a buyer shortlist of that last type. It is not an award list.
How buyers shortlist a clipping agency
| Agency | Type | Best for | How you pay | Named clients on their site |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lumina Clippers | Managed desk (distribution) | Brands that already have long video | Custom, set on the call | Yes |
| Clipping Culture | Managed desk | Music and entertainment | Published starting points, then scoped on the call | Yes |
| clippingagency.co | Managed desk | Broad creator and brand campaigns | Not published | No |
| ClipUp | Managed desk | Podcasts, film, gaming, apps | Mix of plans | Yes |
Clipping vs ads
People skip ads. They watch clips that look like normal posts.
Ads need an ad account. That account can get limited or shut. Clips post from creator accounts. There is no ad account to pause.
This is not “ads are dead.” Ads still win when you need a tight target and a hard sale. Clipping wins when you already have a good video and you need people who do not follow you yet to see it.
Do not copy a price per thousand views from a blog. The number depends on the work.
How to tell real views from fake ones
Ask these four things before you pay:
- What counts as a view?
- What gets thrown out?
- If a post is deleted, do those views leave the invoice?
- Can you see reach across many accounts, not one big total?
A serious desk answers all four. A farm answers none.
FAQ
Do I need new videos to start?
No. One long video you already have is enough.
Is a clipping agency the same as a clipping service?
For video, people use both names. In search, “clipping service” still brings up press-clipping and photo-editing shops. If you mean short videos on creator accounts, say clipping agency.
Can clipping replace UGC?
No. UGC makes the video. Clipping spreads a video you already have.
Are clipping campaigns good for brands?
They are good when the source is strong and the views are checked. They are weak when the video is weak, or when nobody can show how a view was counted.
Should I run this on a bounty board myself?
Only if you want to brief, vet and police the posters. Most brands hire a desk so that work is not theirs.
Is clipping legal?
Yes, when you have the rights to the source video and you follow platform and copyright rules. Clipping someone else’s film without a licence is not a campaign. It is a takedown waiting to happen.
Do clips need a paid-partnership label?
Treat it as paid distribution, not a free mention. A serious desk writes the disclosure rule into the brief — what the caption may say, and what it must say — before volume goes out. The platforms are still catching up. The brief should not wait for them.
Bottom line
A clipping agency is a desk that takes your existing video, cuts it, and gets real people to post it. You pay for views that landed.
It is not press clipping. It is not UGC. It is not one influencer. It is not a bounty board. It is not a view farm.
If a pitch cannot say those lines in plain words, it is not selling this job.
