Top 5 Houston Car Accident Law Firms With the Highest Documented Verdicts and Settlements

Top 5 Houston Car Accident Law Firms With the Highest Documented Verdicts and Settlements

Harris County recorded more than 67,000 crash reports in 2024 according to Texas Department of Transportation data, the highest total of any county in the state. The Insurance Research Council found that injured victims without legal representation recover settlements averaging 3.5 times lower than those with an attorney, even after legal fees are deducted.

The five firms below have documented case results in the public record that reflect what experienced legal representation produces in the Houston market.

1. Sutliff and Stout

Sutliff and Stout was founded in 2007 by Graham Sutliff and Hank Stout. This auto accident attorney houston firm has recovered more than $1 billion in verdicts and settlements for injured Texans. Both founding partners hold Board Certification in Personal Injury Trial Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a credential that requires passing a written examination, peer review by other attorneys, and a demonstrated trial record. Fewer than 2 percent of all Texas trial lawyers hold it.

The firm’s published case results include some of the largest truck accident recoveries in Harris County. In one wrongful death case, the at-fault insurance company offered the widow and five minor children zero dollars before trial. The case went to a three-day jury trial in Harris County in June 2023. The jury returned a unanimous verdict of $13,314,000.00. The insurer had argued the children had extended family who could fill the role of the deceased father and that the accident was his fault. The jury rejected both arguments.

A second wrongful death case involved an 18-wheeler driver who lost control on US Highway 277 during wet road conditions. The client’s vehicle caught fire. Available coverage on the at-fault carrier was far below the actual harm caused. The firm identified additional liability sources beyond the primary policy. Net recovery to the family was $14,673,000.00. A third trucking wrongful death case involving a head-on collision produced a net recovery of $15,468,239.86.

Not all documented results involve wrongful death. In a 2022 jury trial in Menard County, the defendants offered $200,000 before trial in a truck rear-end case where injury severity was disputed. The defendants argued the injuries required $16,000 in treatment. The jury determined the client needed lifelong care and awarded $2,168,000.00. In a Harris County case, Farmers Insurance argued the jury should award less than $10,000 to a car accident victim whose documented medical bills totaled $10,465. The jury awarded $568,875.00 and the insurance companies were required to satisfy the judgment beyond the defendant’s $100,000 policy limit.

Hank Stout has appeared on the Texas Super Lawyers list every consecutive year since 2012, a recognition given to the top 5 percent of attorneys in the state. The firm reports a 99 percent success rate on accepted cases and an average resolution time of 14 months. Offices operate in Houston, Austin, Marble Falls, and San Angelo.

A client injured in a rear-end crash on Interstate 10 in Southeast Houston described arriving at the firm’s Greater Uptown office without knowledge of the legal process and learning that the attorney had already begun building the evidence file before the first consultation ended.

2. Amaro Law Firm

  1. James Amaro Jr. founded the Amaro Law Firm in Houston in 2005. Before starting the firm, he represented major insurance companies at large defense firms in Texas, giving him direct exposure to how insurers assess and contest personal injury claims. The firm handles car accidents, trucking collisions, catastrophic injury cases, and mass tort litigation across Texas and nationally.

In 2023, Top Verdict, the national jury verdict tracking publication, ranked the Amaro Law Firm as producing the number one jury verdict in automotive premises liability in the state of Texas. In the same year, the firm placed on Top Verdict’s Top 20 Jury Verdicts in Personal Injury, Top 50 Jury Verdicts across all practice areas, and Top 100 Jury Verdicts in Wrongful Death. These four rankings reflect the same calendar year.

  1. James Amaro Jr. has appeared on the Texas Super Lawyers Top 100 Houston list for eight consecutive years and has held the Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers designation every year since 2016. He holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, which he has maintained since 2006. Five attorneys at the firm received Super Lawyers or Rising Stars designations in 2025.

The firm’s case history extends beyond car accident claims. It tried the first Hurricane Ike case to verdict in Harris County, represented thousands of victims of the BP Texas City refinery explosion, and assisted plaintiffs in the BP Deepwater Horizon spill litigation. A Texas Supreme Court case the firm handled created a legal mechanism allowing Texas patients to contest certain hospital billing practices. The firm operates nine Texas locations including Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin, with a team of more than 80 staff members and bilingual representation in English and Spanish at all offices.

A client involved in a City of Houston dump truck crash on Highway 59 described the firm pursuing the case after the city denied responsibility. The settlement covered full medical costs and lost income for three injured occupants.

3. Simmons and Fletcher

Simmons and Fletcher was founded in Houston in 1979 and has practiced personal injury law continuously for 46 years. Managing partner Paul H. Cannon has held Board Certification in Personal Injury Trial Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 2005 and has appeared on the Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers list every year from 2017 through 2025. The firm has recovered more than $1 billion for injured clients across its operating history and handles car accidents, truck crashes, motorcycle collisions, and workplace injuries as its primary practice areas.

The firm’s published case results include a $1,010,000.00 recovery for a client seriously injured in a multi-vehicle intersection crash and a $946,372.00 recovery for a client who sustained a T11 spinal compression fracture, a collapsed lung, and three broken ribs in an automobile accident. A drunk driving accident settlement produced $1,387,500.00 and an 18-wheeler truck accident settlement produced $1,264,113.00. A commercial motor vehicle accident jury verdict of $233,124.00 was reached in a case where the insurance company disputed injury severity and contested liability throughout the proceedings.

Paul Cannon has also received recognition as a Top 100 Trial Lawyer by the National Trial Lawyers Association from 2020 through 2024 and was named Outstanding Mentor of 2020 by the Houston Young Lawyers Association. The firm was voted Best of the Best in Houston in 2023. Cases are handled on a contingency fee basis and the firm offers hospital visits for clients who cannot travel to the office.

A client who required neck surgery after a collision described the firm maintaining contact throughout the full course of her treatment, from intake through settlement disbursement.

4. Ben Dominguez Law Firm

Ben Dominguez has practiced personal injury law in Houston for more than 25 years. The firm handles car accidents, 18-wheeler and commercial vehicle collisions, wrongful death claims, rideshare crashes, and pedestrian accident cases. Office consultations are available at 4899 Montrose Boulevard in Houston and remote consultations are available statewide for clients who cannot travel due to injury.

A significant portion of Houston’s crash victims speak Spanish as their primary language. Navigating the insurance claims process in English creates a barrier that affects how those claims are resolved. Victims who cannot communicate directly with adjusters and attorneys in their primary language are more likely to accept first settlement offers without fully understanding what the claim is worth. The Ben Dominguez Law Firm provides bilingual representation in English and Spanish across all case types it handles, and manages all insurance company communication on behalf of the client from first contact through resolution.

Ben Dominguez has received peer endorsements from other Texas trial attorneys citing his trial preparation and case outcomes. The firm conducts accident investigations, retains expert witnesses to document full damage values, and operates on a contingency fee basis with no fees collected unless compensation is recovered.

A client involved in a five-car pileup on a Houston freeway described the insurance company initially refusing to identify a liable driver. After the firm took over communication with the adjuster, the claim resolved at an amount covering the full cost of treatment the insurer had disputed at the outset.

5. The Wolf of Law Street

The Wolf of Law Street operates personal injury offices in Houston, Fort Worth, and Euless, covering the Houston metro, the Dallas-Fort Worth corridor, and the Texas mid-cities area. The firm handles car crashes, commercial truck collisions, motorcycle accidents, rideshare incidents, and pedestrian cases across all three markets.

Many serious crashes in Texas occur on interstate highways connecting multiple population centers. Interstate 10, Interstate 45, and Interstate 35 each carry high commercial vehicle traffic volumes and cross county and metro area lines. Clients injured on those corridors can access representation from any of the firm’s three locations regardless of where the crash occurred.

Client reviews on verified platforms describe a firm that moves quickly on new matters and maintains communication throughout the negotiation and litigation process. People recovering from injuries frequently find the administrative demands of a legal claim difficult to manage alongside medical appointments and time away from work. The firm handles case management in a way that reduces the direct time the client must spend on the legal process. All cases run on a contingency fee basis with free consultations available in person or by phone at all three locations.

A client involved in a drunk driving crash in another state described difficulty finding an attorney willing to handle the out-of-state claim. The Wolf of Law Street took the case and reached a settlement that exceeded what the client had estimated was recoverable.

What the Verdict Record and Credentials Mean in Practice

Board Certification in Personal Injury Trial Law is the most objective measure of trial qualification available in Texas. The Texas Board of Legal Specialization certifies fewer than 2 percent of Texas trial lawyers in this area. The process requires documented trial history and cannot be obtained through payment or association membership. Sutliff and Stout has two Board Certified founding partners.

Insurance companies track which plaintiff firms take cases to trial and which do not. A firm with documented jury verdicts in Harris County courts operates in a different settlement environment than one without trial history. Adjusters review opposing counsel credentials when evaluating how aggressively to defend a claim and at what number to authorize settlement. The verdict amounts above are drawn from court records and published case results pages, not from self-reported totals.

The Insurance Research Council study finding a 3.5 times recovery gap between represented and unrepresented claimants reflects Harris County and Texas specifically. Harris County recorded 579 traffic fatalities in 2024, the highest total of any Texas county. The volume of serious injury claims in that market means the firms handling them operate under consistent, measurable conditions.
