In a global creative landscape increasingly defined by collaboration and cross-disciplinary expression, Shira Ghertner stands out as an emerging artist who seamlessly merges film, performance, and cultural storytelling. With roots in Israel and a growing international presence, she represents a new wave of creators who are not confined by a single medium but instead explore storytelling as a fluid, evolving form.
Raised in the Tel Aviv–Ramat Gan region, Ghertner developed an early interest in visual narratives and emotional expression. Unlike many drawn to spectacle-driven cinema, she found herself captivated by the quieter, more intimate moments that reveal the complexities of human experience. This sensitivity toward subtle storytelling became a defining feature of her creative approach. Through formal training in the arts and practical experience on film sets, she cultivated a voice that balances personal insight with broader cultural themes.
Her journey into filmmaking began behind the scenes, where she took on roles such as assistant producer and assistant director. These early experiences provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the filmmaking process, from logistics to creative execution. Working on projects like Broken Mirrors, Washed, and Green Ape, she refined both her storytelling instincts and her ability to manage complex productions. These formative years laid a strong foundation for her transition into more significant creative roles.

A turning point in her career came with her involvement in the co-production of Soft Sign, filmed in 2022 and released in 2023. The project gained recognition at international festivals, including the Palm Springs International ShortFest, introducing her work to a wider global audience. Her continued contributions to projects such as Raash, The Race, and the web series The Roommate demonstrate her adaptability and willingness to experiment with different formats and narratives.
While film remains central to her work, Ghertner’s artistic identity extends far beyond the screen. Dance plays a vital role in her creative expression, offering a medium through which she can communicate emotion in its most direct form. For her, movement is not separate from storytelling but an extension of it—another language capable of conveying depth and meaning without words. Drawing inspiration from tribal fusion and Middle Eastern dance traditions, she creates performances that blend cultural heritage with contemporary interpretation.
Her involvement in performance art has also led to collaborations with international artists and ensembles. Notably, she has performed with the New York Fusion Belly Dance Ensemble under the direction of Elizabeth Khard. These collaborations highlight her interest in connecting diverse artistic traditions and fostering cross-cultural dialogue. By integrating cinematic structure with physical movement, she crafts performances that resonate across audiences and disciplines alike.
Beyond her creative work, Ghertner is committed to supporting the artistic community. Her involvement with the ACT Workers Union reflects her dedication to improving working conditions within the industry. She advocates for fair treatment of artists and production professionals, emphasizing that meaningful and sustainable art can only thrive in environments built on respect and equity.
As she continues to expand her work across film, television, and performance, Ghertner remains focused on creating stories that emphasize emotional connection and cultural understanding.
