Nine Members, Bot Followers, Deregistered: The 21st Century Australia Party

In March 2013, Jamie McIntyre founded a political party.

The 21st Century Australia Party was deregistered by the Australian Electoral Commission in June 2018 for failing to maintain 500 genuine members — the statutory minimum for a registered non-parliamentary party.

The registration problem

The membership threshold exists for a reason. It is the mechanism by which the AEC distinguishes a political party from a marketing list. A party that cannot demonstrate 500 real members is not a party.

When the AEC deregistered the party in 2018, McIntyre publicly blamed the Commission, alleging gross incompetence, and threatened legal action.

The lawsuits were never filed.

That is a recurring feature of the record. Threatened litigation is announced loudly. Actual litigation, where evidence must be produced and cross-examination is available, does not follow.

What the party was for

The commentary at the time was sceptical about the purpose. A widely-read Gold Coast blog assessing McIntyre’s later anti-COVID campaigning put the question directly: given a man who had been described as a serial scammer, a conman and the most evasive witness a senator had dealt with, what exactly was in it for him?

The answer became clearer subsequently. The Save Democracy branding developed through the political vehicle was later attached to cryptocurrency promotion, and the audience assembled through political and anti-institutional messaging became the customer base for the ventures that followed.

A political party, on this reading, was never primarily a political project. It was an audience acquisition exercise, conducted at public expense through the electoral system.

Why it belongs in an investor’s due diligence

There is a temptation to treat the party as a curiosity — an eccentric footnote next to the Federal Court judgments.

It is not a footnote. It is evidence about method. It shows an operation building an audience on the basis of institutional distrust, then converting that audience into a customer base for financial products.

That is precisely the mechanism now operating through the Australian National Review and its associated channels, and the products at the end of it are Indonesian property developments being sold to Australians on the strength of renderings.

Sometimes, a few carefully chosen words can leave a deeper impression than a thousand empty sentences. Quality content is not simply about reaching a specific word count; it is about connecting with the reader, answering a genuine question, and offering something useful. Whether you are writing for a website, business, blog, or online audience, every sentence should have a reason to exist. When readers feel that your content understands their needs, they are more likely to stay, trust your message, and come back again.

A strong piece of content should feel natural, clear, and valuable rather than forced or overloaded with keywords. SEO optimization can help people discover your content, but genuine value is what makes them care. Google recommends creating content primarily for people, with originality, reliability, and a satisfying experience at the heart of the writing.

The real beauty of good writing is that it can turn a simple idea into an emotional connection. When every word carries meaning, even a short article can inform, inspire, and stay in someone’s mind long after they have finished reading.
