Many people spend years working hard, chasing income, and fulfilling responsibilities, yet still feel disconnected from the future they truly want. According to Hayson Tasher Sr., the problem is often not a lack of effort but a lack of direction. He refers to this concept as Directional Obligation: the responsibility each person has to identify their goals and move toward them with purpose.
Based in Gardena, California, Hayson is the owner and operator behind OLDPGS HAYSON TASHER. A recipient of the 2022 and 2023 Business Hall of Fame Awards from the City of Pasadena, California, he has built his career around self-investment, opportunity, and hands-on leadership. Through his experiences in business and security, he has learned that success comes when opportunity is paired with understanding and direction.
Climbing the Right Ladder
One lesson that strongly resonates with Hayson comes from Robert Kiyosaki’s observation that many people suffer from directional confusion, climbing the wrong ladder with everything they have while chasing money without truly understanding it.
Hayson believes this situation is common among young people who are still searching for their purpose. A person may be under 21 years old, pressured by responsibilities, encouraged by parents to find a job because rent is due, and no longer in school. In those circumstances, survival often becomes the priority, making it difficult to focus on long-term goals.
While earning a living is necessary, Hayson believes people should never lose sight of what they ultimately want to achieve. Having a job may be a temporary necessity, but it should not replace a person’s vision for the future. Directional obligation means understanding where you want to go, even if your current circumstances require you to take a different path to get there.
From Self-Investment to Entrepreneurship
The foundation of Hayson’s success came from observing his own growth within the security industry. While working for security companies, he consistently invested in certifications, licenses, and professional development.
Over time, he realized that his qualifications had grown beyond those held by many managers and supervisors around him. The effort he was putting into his own development created opportunities that were unavailable to the average security guard. This realization became the motivation to venture out on his own and build a company that reflected his standards and vision.
Today, his business provides armed and unarmed uniformed security guards, alarm response services, SB1626 school security, investigation services, and additional security solutions. Guided by the principles “Security you can count on” and “Dedicated to a safe and secure environment,” the company focuses on professionalism, accountability, and reliability.
What separates Hayson from many competitors is that he continues to oversee management and field operations alongside his affiliates. Rather than stepping away from day-to-day responsibilities, he remains actively involved in the work that built the company.
Opportunity Means More Than Money
When discussing inspiration, Hayson often points to real-life examples of individuals who were given opportunities but struggled because they lacked direction. He recalls bringing on a security guard for assignments after hearing the individual’s explanation of previous difficulties. Later, the guard was removed at a client’s request, and additional personal and professional problems continued to accumulate.
For Hayson, the situation reinforced an important lesson: chasing money without understanding responsibility, planning, and long-term consequences can lead people further away from their goals. Opportunity alone is not enough. Individuals must also have the discipline and awareness to use it correctly.
His advice is simple: write down your goals and keep pursuing them, even when current opportunities do not perfectly align with them. Sometimes people must do things they do not necessarily want to do in order to reach the opportunities that eventually lead them to what they were meant to do.
Looking ahead, Hayson envisions retail locations featuring OLD PATROLMAN BRAND tactical wear, firearms, security technology, and related products. He also plans to establish security training centers and launch an event-focused OLDPGS sister company.
For Hayson Tasher Sr., directional obligation is about remaining committed to a purpose. Opportunities appear throughout life, but lasting success belongs to those who know where they are going and continue moving toward it, one step at a time.
