Google rolls out the News Showcase in Cyprus.
The search engine company Google announced on Thursday the launch of Google News Showcase, their curated online news experience and licensing program, in Cyprus. The announcement came two months after the company launched News Showcase in Finland.
Some media companies, including Cyprus Mail, Dias Group, Digital Tree, MC Media, Phileleftheros Media Group, Politis, and SPP Media, are among the media partners who have signed on to the Google News Showcase in Cyprus, Google said.
According to the search engine company, publishers in Cyprus who will participate will create News Showcase panels that will help readers engage with the news and direct them to full articles on news publications’ websites.
Demetris Lottides, CEO of SPPMedia Group, said in a comment, “Our partnership through Google News Showcase allows us to deliver our high-quality journalism and premium content to readers in a more engaging and accessible way. Google reported that it has signed News Showcase deals with over 2,700 publications globally. The product is available in 26 countries, including the United States, France, Spain, Poland, Slovakia, Germany, Ireland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Italy, Austria, Romania, and Slovenia.
Google launched a news showcase in Finland.
Two months ago, Google also announced the launch of the Google News Showcase in Finland. The launch aims to find another way for news organizations and people in Finland to connect with the launch of Google News.
Sanoma Media Finland and Keskisuomalainen have signed on as inaugural partners for News Showcase in Finland, according to the release.
Vesa-Pekka Kangaskorpi, CEO of Keskisuomalainen, said, “Google News Showcase increases the visibility of our strong news brands even further. Finns appreciate reliable domestic news services. Now we have the opportunity to reach readers through a new way and more strongly bring out topics that affect all Finns.”
