5W ranked the top 25 US sports betting and gaming operators by how often AI engines cite them.
MIAMI, Fla. – 5W, the AI Communications Firm, has published the US Sports Betting & Gaming AI Visibility Index 2026, ranking the top 25 US sports betting and gaming operators by their share of citations in AI-generated answers.
5W Research queried ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews across more than 75 consumer-intent questions in 10 sub-categories — from sportsbook and app selection to odds, promotions, casino operators, daily fantasy, prediction markets and state-by-state legality — and scored each operator on citation frequency, answer positioning, sentiment and sub-category strength.
The central finding: the top five operators capture more than 92 percent of AI citation share across the questions tested. The two market leaders alone hold roughly 78 percent of US sportsbook market share — and an even higher share of the AI answer. For every operator outside the top five, the report documents a widening gap.
US legal sports betting has grown from zero to more than $16 billion in annual revenue in seven years, across 38 states. With customer acquisition cost now exceeding $400 per new bettor, the report identifies AI citation share as the leading indicator of where the category’s most expensive discovery is being allocated.
“Most bettors now research operators inside an AI engine before they ever open an app,” said Ronn Torossian, Founder and Chairman of 5W. “When five names absorb the answer, everyone else is competing for a remainder most of them have never measured. The operators that build AI citation infrastructure now will own the markets that legalize next.”

The report’s central finding is striking: the top five sportsbook operators account for more than 92 percent of AI citation share across the questions analyzed. This concentration mirrors the broader structure of the U.S. sports betting industry, where the two dominant operators alone control nearly 78 percent of total market share. In AI-generated responses, however, their influence appears even stronger, suggesting that visibility within AI systems may reinforce existing market leadership rather than diversify consumer attention.
The study highlights how AI-driven discovery is increasingly favoring already established brands. Operators with strong market positions, extensive digital footprints, and high consumer recognition are cited far more frequently than smaller competitors. As a result, the gap between the industry leaders and all remaining operators continues to widen.
For sportsbooks outside the top five, the challenge is becoming more severe. Limited AI citation share reduces visibility in search and recommendation environments that are shaping how users gather information and make decisions. Over time, this trend could create a feedback loop in which larger operators gain even greater prominence, while smaller brands struggle to compete for attention, customer acquisition, and long-term growth in an AI-influenced marketplace.
