Why did Adobe bring generative AI to video editing?

U.S. software maker Adobe, on Monday, said that it is bringing generative AI video workflows inside of Adobe Premiere Pro with brand new tools designed to make shots a little longer. According to Adobe, video is the most compelling storytelling medium. From short-form social posts to feature-length films, video gives creatives, brands, and anyone with a phone in their pocket the power to connect and engage. Adobe’s suite of video tools—Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Audition – are the industry-standard for creating professional video, and for over a decade, we’ve delivered AI-powered innovation in editing, sound, color, and effects.

“Today, we’re excited to share our vision for bringing generative AI video workflows inside of Adobe Premiere Pro with brand new tools designed to make shots a little longer, add new objects or remove unwanted objects, and generate missing b-roll. By creating interfaces and workflows that unlock the power of generative AI, professional editors will be able to do things they’ve never been able to before, without leaving Premiere Pro,” Adobe said.

Adobe said that it is developing a new Firefly Video Model that will be added to the already existing Firefly Image, Vector, Design, and Text Effects Models, and they are incorporating third-party generative AI tools and models with Premiere Pro, such as OpenAI’s Sora, RunwayML, and Pika.

The real value is in editing existing content faster with generative AI—adding objects, removing distractions, or extending clips seamlessly on the timeline. All with your content and with your precise control.

About Adobe Firefly

Adobe Firefly is an independent web application that offers new ways to ideate, create, and communicate while significantly improving creative workflows using generative AI. According to the report, Firefly is the natural extension of the technology Adobe has produced over the past 40 years, driven by the belief that people should be empowered to bring their ideas into the world precisely as they imagine them.

Firefly supports over 100 languages for text prompt inputs, as well as localizing the Firefly website for more than 20 languages, starting with Japanese, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Italian, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Chinese Simplified, and Chinese Traditional.

Adobe said that the current Firefly generative AI model is trained on a dataset of licensed content, such as Adobe Stock, and public domain content where copyright has expired.

Adobe’s integration of Generative AI into Premiere Pro marks a significant leap forward in the realm of video editing. By harnessing the power of AI, users can expect enhanced efficiency, creativity, and productivity in their editing workflows. This innovative feature promises to revolutionize the way professionals and enthusiasts alike approach video editing, empowering them to achieve stunning results with greater ease and speed.
