NEWS OCT (100)

Every exchange user had a reason to worry this week. Brazil’s Mercado Bitcoin put a breach of its wallets at about $38 million. Withdrawals were still suspended on November 3.

The exchange promised clients they will not lose assets, yet none can move a coin out until it reopens. The cryptocurrency news this week therefore asks who really controls the coins sitting on an exchange.

Breaches fill the headlines. Meanwhile, crypto’s largest gains come earlier in a coin’s life, before its first listing. Pepeto is at that point. It is a meme token in presale building an exchange where traders keep their own coins. After its presale, it raised over $11.2 million.

Cryptocurrency News: Mercado Bitcoin Freezes $11M of a $38M Breach

Brazil’s largest exchange lost about $38 million on November 2, when attackers sent valid, signed transfers out of its wallets across at least 10 blockchains.

Nobody has explained how they got signing access. Deposits and withdrawals were still paused on November 3, with no date to reopen.

The response shows how the industry now contains a breach. Tether, Circle, Paxos, BRL1 and Chainalysis helped block about $11 million by Monday evening. As a result, part of the loss was stopped within hours.

However, a pause treats every account alike. While withdrawals stay shut, a $1,000 account and a $1 million account among the exchange’s 4.5 million users wait the same way. About $27 million, roughly 70% of the loss, has not been blocked so far.

In other words, the cryptocurrency news this week is about who signs for the coins. On a non custodial exchange the trader signs every trade from his own wallet. This means there is no central key to steal. That security is what Pepeto’s exchange is being built around.

The Cofounder Behind Pepe’s $11 Billion Rise Is Building Pepeto’s Exchange

The builder of Pepe is a cofounder of Pepeto, whose AI utility token adds an exchange to the meme coin model and sells before its first listing. That exchange answers the exact failure in Brazil this week.

Mercado Bitcoin’s loss came from wallets the company signed for. PepetoSwap, in development with private testing for community members and big investors, never takes custody.

Trades settle from the trader’s wallet, so no operator holds funds an attacker could move. Its swap fee is 0.00%, so a $100,000 trade pays $0 plus gas, where Uniswap charges $300 and PancakeSwap $250.

DCA, limit and market orders are planned. MEV protection through a private relay is switched on from the start. This keeps bots from jumping ahead of a trade. SolidProof audited the code and verified the team. Wallets from MetaMask to Phantom connect.

Stakers earn 160% APY, claimable once the token lists. Presale buyers have sent in more than $11.1 million at $0.0000001904 per token, and every new stage raises the price.

Pepe launched in April 2023. It passed an $11 billion market value on December 9, 2024. There were 420.69 trillion tokens and no product behind them.

Pepeto starts with the same builder, a fixed supply of 420 trillion and an exchange giving traders a reason to hold the token, so its presale buyers now hold the position Pepe’s first buyers had.

Conclusion

Mercado Bitcoin’s breach proves that coins in an exchange’s wallets can leave within hours, even when the company covers the loss. Pepe showed the other side of crypto, turning a 2023 meme into $11 billion of value for its first buyers.

Pepeto is built so no operator ever holds a trader’s coins, with a 0.00% fee exchange in development. For anyone following cryptocurrency news after this breach, that is the answer worth acting on before the Binance listing.

The cofounder already took one meme coin to $11 billion with no exchange behind it. Buying Pepeto now backs the same builder and the same kind of supply, this time with an exchange behind the token. That is a pattern that already worked once, not a guess.
