Holding XRP used to mean exactly that: you held it. If you wanted to earn a yield or interact with decentralized finance, you faced a massive headache. You had to create new Ethereum Virtual Machine wallets. You had to bridge your assets across completely different blockchain networks. You even had to manage separate gas tokens just to cover transaction fees. Most holders simply gave up before they ever earned a single dollar.
Flare is changing that entire process today. The network just announced the release of Flare Smart Accounts v1.3. This major upgrade strips away the technical friction of decentralized finance. It allows XRP holders to mint FXRP and deposit it directly into yield-generating vaults. The best part? Users can do all of this with just a single signature from the XRP Ledger wallet they already use.
This release arrives right as activity surrounding XRP-based decentralized finance continues to explode. The industry often refers to this growing sector as XRPFi. Since February 2026, the total amount of FXRP deployed across decentralized applications has surged by nearly 75 percent. That number climbed from 82 million up to 144 million FXRP. The momentum is clearly building. More than 40 million XRP is currently earning active yield through the Flare Smart Accounts system. Furthermore, nearly 24,000 individual Smart Accounts have already been created by eager users.
Filip Koprivec serves as the Chief Product Officer at Flare. He understands exactly why this update matters to the average crypto investor.
“Millions of XRP holders have wanted access to DeFi, but the experience has been too complex,” Koprivec stated.
“With Smart Accounts v1.3, users can go from XRP to yield with a single signature while remaining fully non-custodial.”
The technical mechanics happening behind the scenes are fascinating. The previous iteration of this system required users to provide two separate XRP Ledger signatures to complete a deposit. This new update compresses that down into a single, unified transaction. Your XRP remains highly secure on the native XRP Ledger through a one-to-one collateral model. While your assets sit safely, Flare automatically mints the equivalent FXRP. It then deposits those tokens directly into your chosen yield strategy.
This automation relies heavily on the Flare Data Connector. This tool actively verifies the XRP Ledger transaction over on the Flare network. Once verified, a specialized smart contract linked directly to the user’s address automatically handles the rest of the heavy lifting.
Users also have more choices now. The v1.3 update expands the specific yield strategies available on the platform. Flare just added the Clearstar Flare XRP Yield Vault. This provides investors with a second actively managed option alongside the existing Monarq vault.
These two vaults take completely different approaches to generating returns. The Monarq vault is operated by a firm majority-owned by FalconX. It combines options trading, basis trading, funding rate capture, and on-chain strategies. The system dynamically adjusts your allocations as market conditions shift.
On the other hand, the new Clearstar vault takes a strictly on-chain approach. It deploys your FXRP across various lending and liquidity protocols operating on Flare, including platforms like Avant and Euler. Every single position within this strategy is publicly verifiable on the blockchain. It has a strong track record, previously managing more than 33 million FXRP in active deposits.
Wallet compatibility is also getting a massive boost. Flare is expanding access by adding support for Ledger, Xaman, Joey Wallet, and WalletConnect. These new options join the platform’s existing support for D’CENT hardware wallets. This means more XRP holders can tap into Flare’s yield infrastructure using the exact same wallets they already know and trust.
The Joey Wallet integration is particularly interesting. Joey Wallet is a self-custodial XRP Ledger wallet known for its incredibly fast onboarding process. With this new update, Joey Wallet now embeds Flare Smart Accounts directly as an in-wallet application. Users can mint FXRP and deposit their assets into yield vaults without ever leaving the main interface.
Christopher Troia, the Co-Founder of Joey Wallet, highlighted why this partnership makes sense for both communities.
“There is a lot of overlap between the XRPL and Flare communities, so integrating Flare Smart Accounts just made sense,” Troia explained.
This entire rollout reflects a much larger trend across the blockchain industry. Infrastructure providers are finally realizing that complex user experiences kill adoption. For years, decentralized finance forced users to navigate a maze of bridges, networks, and confusing fee structures. Newer solutions are actively hiding that complexity behind clean, simple interfaces.
Flare is positioning itself as the primary bridge connecting XRP with the broader world of programmable finance. By expanding wallet integrations and adding transparent on-chain investment options, the network is giving users what they actually want. They can finally generate yield on their idle assets without needing a computer science degree to figure out the plumbing.
