3 Food Tech Startups Pushing Innovations Forward

Food Tech

In recent years, the food-tech startup industry has started to gain more traction. While a part of this may be due to the evolving needs of consumers, startups also have the ability to take risks and experiment in a way that other corporations may not be able to.

Food tech is a growing segment of startups with a focus on improving the food industry. While some companies have adopted blockchain technology — others are creating artificial proteins to cater to consumer preferences.

Below, is a look into some of the rising food tech trends along with 3 of some of the best food tech startups to watch out for.

Jack & Bry, United Kingdom

Jack & Bry focuses on making delicious tasty meats that are made from jackfruit. They’ve got an extensive selection from pepperoni to burgers and sausages. Made without soy, gluten or palm oil, it still has that meaty texture thanks to the jackfruit. On top of that, it’s also low calorie and a great source of fiber.

Currently, Jack & Bry supplies their products to Papa John’s along with Zizzi. They’re looking to expand their distribution points and are constantly creating new products. Even though the company only launched in 2019, they’ve already sold over 20 million pieces of their pepperoni and have achieved much success.

Kitche, United Kingdom

Kitche was designed to help with saving cost and reducing food waste at home. The app helps to keep track of your products and provide reminders for the food that you’ve got at home. How it works, is that the app will scan food products through receipt photos. Then, you’ll receive notifications when your fruits and vegetables are about to expire. You can also filter recipes based on the ingredients you have to reduce wastage.

Gathar, Australia

Gathar was created on the premise of allowing hosts to focus on entertaining their guests while chefs take care of the dining experience. Through its platform, hosts are connected with chefs who’ll help with whipping up meals. Menus can also be curated according to individual preferences and dietary needs. Since its launch, the company has achieved much success and has now expanded into 10 locations across the country.

While plenty of businesses have taken a hit due to COVID-19, Gathar has modified their business and adapted with the times by hosting virtual dinner parties for their customers and even creating a special Isolation Degustation menu that’s paired with a live-streamed musician

Summing up

With rising consumer expectations when it comes to food delivery, startups are now focusing on the user experience to make the process as seamless as possible for consumers. Food delivery doesn’t just refer to restaurants to consumer delivery however, it also encompasses farm to table.

While animal-based substitute products are on the rise, it isn’t just artificial proteins that are hitting the shelves. Other products such as insect-based food, algae, and even artificial dairy are now taking the food tech world by storm.

Finally, there are IoT technologies that have been showing promise in improving food safety. These technologies help to track products along the supply chains with the use of sensors which help in monitoring the state of food and provide a warning for any potential food safety hazards.

With technology continuing to play a critical role in the production of food, packaging, delivery, taste, and more, investments in food tech are only expected to continue to deliver more sustainable food systems that are healthier for the world.
