In an era where financial transparency defines public trust, a young Nigerian-born accountant is quietly transforming how small and mid-sized firms manage performance and compliance. Ogundipe Olajumoke Mary, an Audit Associate at Olayinka Oyebola & Co. in Lagos, Nigeria, has emerged as one of the new voices championing technology-driven accountability within professional accounting.
While completing her master’s degree in accountancy and financial management at the University of Greater Manchester, Ms. Ogundipe developed an Excel-based Financial Performance and Audit Dashboard that automates variance analysis, monitors cash-flow movements, and flags irregularities before they escalate into costly errors. Originally tested during her Financial Manager at Chenchi Ltd, the model reduced reporting time by more than half and significantly improved reconciliation accuracy across departments.
This innovation, later adapted by other accounting firms, formed the basis of her widely read paper, “Automation of Financial-Performance Dashboards: Enhancing Transparency and Decision-Making in SMEs” (2023). The study subsequently inspired further collaboration on a broader investigation into financial-performance indicators and stock-market valuation, culminating in her 2024 research, “Impact of Financial Performance on the Share Prices of Banks Listed on the FTSE 100 Index.”
Beyond her technical expertise, Ms. Ogundipe advocates for a new culture of ethical innovation in auditing, emphasizing the balance between technology and human judgment. “Automation should strengthen accountability, not replace it,” she often remarks during workshops organized under the Association of Accounting Bodies in West Africa (ABWA). Her upcoming projects explore how AI-based audit analytics can help regulators detect early signs of financial distress and promote ESG compliance in emerging markets.
At just 24 years old, Ms. Ogundipe’s professional journey conveys a powerful message: the future of accounting belongs to those who can transform numbers into insight—and insight into integrity.
