X Pay Raises $1 Million to Build the Payment Layer for AI Agents and APIs

X Pay, the payment infrastructure that lets AI agents and APIs pay and get paid inside a single web request, today announced it has raised $1 million. Participants in the round include DCI, Credit Scend, Skyland Ventures, Zerra Ventures, BigBull Capital, ERC20 Capital, EU Capital, Dubai Blockchain Lab and The Crypto Launchpad.
The company also announced that Andy Cheung, former Chief Operating Officer of OKX and founder and chief executive of K25.ai, has joined as an advisor.
X Pay went live on Base mainnet on 11 September 2026 and began operating its own x402 facilitator on 22 September. It has since settled more than 50,000 payments in USDC, every one of them verifiable onchain.
What the company does
X Pay is built on x402, the open payment standard contributed by Coinbase and run under the Linux Foundation. A server answers a request with a price, the client signs a payment, and the response arrives in the same round trip. There is no account, no API key and no subscription, and the payer never needs gas.
The company runs a payment gateway, a merchant dashboard, a developer kit and a catalogue of 21 paid endpoints. It charges a flat 1% of settled volume, with no setup fee and no monthly minimum, and it is entirely non-custodial. Merchants are paid out to their own wallets and X Pay never holds customer funds.
What the funding will build
The capital will be used to:
- Extend settlement beyond Base to BNB Chain and Solana, so one integration reaches the networks where agent payments are happening
- Scale the facilitator for production volume, including an independent security review
- Ship developer tooling that lets any API charge per request with a single middleware call
- Launch the API marketplace, where an agent can discover a service and pay for it in the same moment
- Strengthen compliance in the European Union, including preparation for MiCA
“Software is already the busiest buyer on the internet, and it still cannot pay for anything without a person setting up an account first,” said Johnny Sluijmer, Chief Executive Officer of X Pay. “This round is about removing that step everywhere, not just on one chain.”
A growing ecosystem
X Pay works with AgentKey on programmatic access for agents, DeepBook AI on payments for its AI browser, and AI Share, EKOX, ZerraPay and Clairvoyants Lab across the agent and payments ecosystem. More than 49,000 people follow the company on X and over 18,000 are in its Telegram channels.
To mark passing 50,000 transactions, X Pay is running a community giveaway of $50 across ten winners.
