Whereas in the past it was mainly the illegal streaming or downloading of videos, there has been a shift, and piracy is now going much further than that. A cyberlocker is an online file hosting service, in which companies can save company data, such as pictures, videos, and software. The information that is being saved within a cyberlocker can be copied by sharing download URLs. You already understand it is a very accessible place for online pirates to make their move. Anti-piracy companies usually have a big database of cyberlockers and because of that, they can constantly monitor infringing downloads.
Online marketplaces
Online marketplaces are places where people can offer products and customers can buy those products. Well-known marketplaces are Amazon, eBay, and AliExpress. Via these marketplaces, illegal copies of written documents, series, films, and so forth are constantly offered. Anti-piracy companies are keeping a close eye and checking if your products are also sold without consent. If this is the case, they will make sure that the products are shut down from that specific marketplace.
Social media
You can not or will not even think of it, but online pirates are not even that ‘’secretly acting’’. It is found that online pirates are publishing links to their websites – where for example a film can be downloaded secretly – via their own or companies’ social media platforms. Anti-piracy will monitor social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, and make sure that these links will be recognized. When a link indeed leads to one of your products, of course, it is aimed and requested to shut the product down from that specific website!
