With the series 1-0-1 in favor of Canelo Alvarez, Gennadiy Golovkin is looking to even the score in their trilogy fight. Another year older, the 40-year-old Golovkin is ready for September 17.

Inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the WBA, IBF, and IBO middleweight champion will attempt to fight for super-middleweight gold for the first time. There may be some bad blood between the two, but Golovkin realizes he must have a different plan of action if he wants to get into the mind of Canelo.

“A lot of time has passed. We are different fighters now,” Golovkin told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “It’s the right approach to move on. Not to look back at the previous two fights and train with this idea that is a separate fight… It would be the biggest win in my career. It would be the best thing that happened. That would be very fulfilling.”

Since losing to Canelo in 2018 via majority decision, Golovkin has won four in a row. Canelo is 7-1 since the Golovkin fights, becoming the undisputed super-middleweight champion in less than 12 months. A rivalry will finally be renewed in Las Vegas.
