VeeamON Accelerated My Excitement and Understanding in Data Protection

Understanding in Data Protection

Veeam is one of the market leaders in backup, recovery, and data management solutions. Their 2021 VeaamON conference was held in May and did not disappoint. It was jam-packed with fantastic speakers talking about things that actually have application in day-to-day life. For those that missed it the sessions are all available online, so make sure you check them out. For me, there were a couple of sessions that really stood out.

Kubernetes Backup Best Practices Meets Pac Man

This session was popular among a number of attendees and it was certainly a fun way to learn how Kubernetes will change the way software is deployed. Hosted by Michael Cade and Dean Lewis the session progressed through zero-downtime deployments, automatic rollout, and rollback capabilities, and flexible scaling. It provided a foundation in the form of a set of best practices for those looking to deploy Kubernetes in the future. While not the most fun of topics, the session was the ideal way to learn about the implications of data loss in the big bad world.

One of the exciting developments for Kubernetes will be the introduction of repository integration for Kasten K10 for Kubernetes which will expand the data protection services of Kubernetes, provide an integrated, centralized location for storing mission, and expand the options for Kubernetes expansion onto the cloud. There was a lot of information to take in during this session, so it’s worth the time it will take to rewatch the session online. Some real pearls of wisdom were imparted that will set you up well for the future.

VeeamON Exclusive: V11

With most of the sessions offered virtually, the VeeamON Exclusive: V11 session was one of the few live sessions, so for me, it was a must. Veeam proclaims itself as #1 in data protection so the opportunity to learn about their product development and features that are being considered for future releases was not about to be missed. Anton Gostev certainly lived up to expectations and having completed the session there was no doubt my understanding of data protection had been enhanced.

Ransomware Recovery 10 Top Expert Advice and Tips

With ransomware making the papers regularly over the course of the last year and the number of attacks increasing, the Ransomware Recovery 10 Top Expert Advice and Tips was worth its weight in gold. While the expert advice and tips weren’t a silver bullet to this issue, the content was nonetheless useful in the modern world. Among the content, there were some genuine pearls of wisdom that will no doubt be in the back of the mind of any organization that has suffered an attack. For a topic that can be pretty bland, the session certainly beat my pre-session expectations.

This session was complemented well by the Veeam and Cyberthreats sessions which provided an excellent overview of how Veeam’s mobility and cloud features can help to neutralize the ongoing threat from cybercriminals.

The information that VeeamON packs into its sessions makes it the perfect way to stay abreast of developments in data protection. With the conference still available online, it is thoroughly recommended that those that missed the event take the opportunity to check out the recorded sessions. I guarantee not only will it be worth your time, but you will also learn plenty to set your systems up for the year ahead. VeeamON 2021 was an opportunity that could not be missed. If you missed this year’s event, make sure you register for next year which will be held in Las Vegas from 16-18 May.
