Why did Snapchat introduce new AR experiences?

Snapchat announced on Tuesday in a press release that it is introducing new AR experiences powered by GenAI for Snapchatters and their AR developer community. According to the release, Snap’s real-time image model can instantly bring your imagination to life in AR by making it possible to type in an idea for a transformation and generate vivid AR experiences in real time.

“This milestone of running GenAI models in real-time on mobile devices is made possible by our team’s breakthroughs to optimize faster, more performant GenAI techniques. Our team of researchers and engineers is constantly innovating to make GenAI faster and lighter, so our Snapchat community can create and communicate with their friends on the go. Our GenAI techniques power Bitmoji Backgrounds, Chat Wallpapers, Dreams, AI Pets and of course, our AI Lenses,” Snapchat said.

Introducing New GenAI Tools for the AR Creator Community 

Snapchat also introduced a new GenAI Suite to their AR authoring tool Lens Studio, which will enable AR creators to generate custom ML models and assets to power their lenses. This suite of tools supercharges AR creation by saving weeks or even months of time creating new models from scratch.

Snapchat has teamed up with London’s National Portrait Gallery to create lenses inspired by iconic portrait styles using the GenAI Suite. Snapchatters can choose from a collection of portrait-style lenses, take a snap, and submit it to the museum’s “Living Portrait” projection wall, the report said. 

Versace partners with Snapchat to bring its new footwear innovation to life.

On June 4, 2024, Snapchat announced Versace had partnered with them to bring its latest footwear innovation to life. Starting that day, Snapchatters can experience Versace Mercury and a glimpse of its futuristic design through a multitude of experiences that intertwine both the digital and physical worlds together.

Snapchat said that from June 4th, Snapchatters can unlock the Versace Mercury sneakers for their Bitmoji alongside 12 exclusive and iconic pieces from the House. The Mercury sneakers can be accessed by redeeming 350 tokens, and the entire collection will range from 100 to 1,100 tokens, which are available for purchase in the Token Shop on Snapchat. Later this month, new Versace styles will be added to the Bitmoji collection.
