The weekend of September 4 – 6, 2021 will be lit as Smoakland and Harborside brings a historic, fully licensed event to City Hall: Market Daze x Hiero Day. This event will feature members of Oakland’s legendary Hieroglyphics crew as well as other musical guests and the famous Turf Inc Dance Battle.
Event Breakdown: What to Expect
On Labour Day the Hieroglyphics crew and other special guests, including Planet Asia, will perform various solo projects, side projects and new music for the crowd from noon to 7pm. “We love the Hieroglyphics crew and their wide catalogue of music. I couldn’t imagine going two years without seeing their wonderful Hiero Day event! This is our way of giving back to the people, the city and the community we love and represent,” says Chang Yi, chief legal officer at Smoakland.
On Saturday and Sunday afternoon the Market Daze crowd will be treated to Turf Inc’s open invitational Dance Battle, featuring 64 dancers. Turf Inc has been a cornerstone of the Oakland street dance scene for years, prominently featuring in Kendrick Lamar’s Alright music video as well as other high profile projects. Feeling the munchies? State that appetite with a selection of food trucks, world famous Hot Boys and various other refreshments to enjoy on site.

Rules and Tickets
The three day ticket and single day Monday ticket guarantees admission for ticket holders to see Hiero and Friends. Ticket holders must be 21 years of age and older. No exceptions will be allowed and attendees must present their photo ID at check-in.
Masks are required for entry into the event and capacity limits will be enforced to ensure safety. The market will be fully fenced in.
No bags or backpacks are allowed. Due to the nature of the event no children are allowed. The State of California rules and regulations strictly require attendees to be 21 years and older.
Tickets are available at Eventbrite for the general admission price of $5 for single day tickets and $12 for three day tickets. Budtenders will be invited for free as well as job seekers looking to break into the cannabis industry.

Hieroglyphics
The distinctive three-eyed, straight lipped emoji that is the Hieroglyphics logo is immediately recognisable by those in the know. Known as the Hieroglyphics Crew or Hiero this all-American underground Hip Hop collective is based in Oakland. Founded in the early 1990’s by rapper Del, the Funky Homosapien, the collective currently features the talents of Casual and Pep Love, producer and manager Domino, DJ Toure and the four individual members of Souls of Mischief, namely, Phesto, A-Plus, Opio and Tajai.
Since their inception Hiero have amassed a large following mainly through live concerts, podcasts and promotion on their website.

Hailing from Fresno, California, this prominent rapper is known for being one half the hip-hop duo the Cali Agents. He is currently a member of the Gold Chain Military and Durag Dynasty and is also well known for his vast discography of mixtapes.

With the goal of spreading original dance culture, Turf Inc was established in Oakland, California, and became a positive platform for dancers, youth and the overall community. Turf Inc specializes in utilising dance to heal trauma and encourage body positivity.
