Mariano Ospina, III, is now searching for a qualified, meritorious, and suitable successor who will carry on and take the Ospina Coffee brand to new heights by filling the void in the world’s coffee market as the Alta Gama, the most prestigious, most luxurious, ultra-premium, and of the utmost quality coffee.
Ospina Coffee is the world’s oldest coffee enterprise, established in Colombia by Don Mariano Ospina Rodriguez in 1835, in the high Andes mountains of the municipality of Fredonia, province of Antioquia.
Don Mariano was a Renaissance man, lawyer, scientist, philosopher, educator, journalist, statesman, politician, geologist, and entrepreneur. Besides establishing his first coffee plantations in Colombia, he also founded the Colombian Conservative Party, created the first public university in the country, and was elected as the 14th President of Colombia (1858-1861).
Don Mariano had several children, among them was Don Pedro Nel Ospina, a devoted coffee grower. He was also an engineer, educator, statesman, and general of the army during the Civil War of 1901. Don Pedro Nel created Colombia’s Central Bank and was elected as the 25th President of Colombia (1922-1926).
Don Mariano also had many grandchildren, among them was Don Mariano Ospina Perez, who was also an ardent and zealous coffee grower. He was the founder of the Colombian National Federation of Coffee Growers in 1927. He later became the Federation’s General Manager in 1930 and afterwards the Chairman of the Board. He was elected as the 43rd President of Colombia (1946-1950).
Mariano Ospina, III, the great-great-grandchild of Don Mariano Ospina Rodriguez and the eldest of the fifth generation of the Ospina family, established the Ospina Coffee Company to globalize the family’s coffee enterprise, and he branded Ospina Coffee as the world’s most prestigious, luxurious, and expensive coffee.
In the quest and pursuit of excellence and with the resolution to elevate coffee to the highest distinction and prominence, Mariano Ospina, III, sought out the world’s uttermost quality coffee beans, the Colombian Arabica Typica, drew a parallel between coffee and the finest French wines, and as a result of his vision, he registered the prized trademark of “Premier Grand Cru TM” for coffee.
After five generations, a saga of 190 years of devotion and passion for coffee, from pioneers to the most profound influencers in the coffee industry in Colombia, the Ospina family has no heir or successor to its long lineage in this coffee enterprise.
