Originality.AI is the world’s first AI trained content detector and plagiarism checker. Founder Jon Gillham will be sharing more details with us in this interview with TechBullion.
Please tell us a little more about yourself?
My name is Jon Gillham, founder of Originality.AI, I have been involved in the digital marketing space with a focus on content marketing for over a decade. We also run a website brokerage at MotionInvest.com where people can buy and sell profitable content sites. Before Originality I owned and sold a content marketing agency.
What is Originality.AI and what unique solutions are you providing?
Originality.AI is an AI content detector and plagiarism checker built for serious web publishers.
It is the only AI detector built and trained to detect GPT-3 and is shown to be effective at detecting GPT-3.5 / ChatGPT generated content. We think of it as the good terminator identifying other AI.
As a plagiarism checker it has added functionality that serious web publishers or content agencies require but is not currently available:
- Team management
- Dashboard and a history of scans
- Full site scans (available soon)
- API (available soon)
Who is Originality.AI for, why is it important in this digital age and what makes it unique from other tools in the market?
The web application is for web publishers and content agencies who want to be sure that the content being produced by their writers is Original. Original means not copied from someone’s existing content and not written by AI.
The API is for anyone who wants to build AI detection into their application to be able to flag content as potentially AI.
Please highlight more, the implications of plagiarism and duplicate contents, why is it a taboo and why must content marketers avoid it?
Web publishers are worried that writers they have hired are using AI generated content.
This is a problem because Google has come out and stated that…
- They do not want to rank AI generated content that does not add value.
- They have algorithms to detect AI generated content.
These 2 points lead any web publisher that is concerned about getting traffic from Google to be concerned that the content they are publishing has been AI generated.
Academic Institutions are also concerned that students are using ChatGPT or GPT-3 related tools to generate AI content and pass it off as their own work.
Could you give us more insight into the technology behind the Originality.AI platform and how it works?
The AI that has been built at Originality.AI was created using a large training dataset from each of the popular NLP models (GPT-2, GPT-NEO, GPT-J and GPT-3). Our AI then trained on this dataset to be capable of determining if content was generated by AI, the accuracy on a 500 word piece of content was shown to be:
- GPT-3 Detection Accuracy is 94.06%
- GPT-J’s Detection Accuracy is 94.14%
- GPT-Neo’s Detection Accuracy is 95.64%.
The AI has also demonstrated it can accurately detect ChatGPT content.
Can you integrate Originality.AI on any CMS platform like wordpress, is it compatible with any other tools, how does this work?
Currently we do not support integrations with platforms like WordPress or Shopify.
However, we will be releasing an API that will allow people to build the AI content detection functionality into their content production workflow or other applications. Other applications of the API will be for education institutions who need to detect if work submitted by students was produced by AI.
For a content agency, how does Originality.AI help in managing a large team and verify that original content is being produced?
Having owned a content agency before starting Originality.AI we had experienced a lot of challenges with plagiarism checking tools.
We needed the ability to add/remove team members, verify the scans that were being completed were for our clients and were passing. This is not currently available.
What is the importance of Originality.AI for website buyers and how can they check an ENTIRE website for original contents?
For Website Buyers they need to evaluate the risk of the website before they purchase it. A large part of the value of a website is the content that is on it. Therefore before purchasing a website it makes sense to determine the content originality risk. If the content has been plagiarized or if the content was all generated by AI that increases the risk of the site to the buyer.
Scanning a site 1 article at a time like other tools require is very time intensive and so what happens is website buyers will check only the top 20% of the articles.
With the bulk scanning tool Originality.AI is developing all they need to do is enter the URL and the full Originality report of both Plagiarism and AI is shown.
