Matt Ramos aka “SUPES” is a renowned pop culture journalist, public speaker, and entrepreneur. He has a following of over 2 million on TikTok & is a writer for Complex.
In this interview we ask SUPES how he was able to become so successful at such a young age & what advice he has for starters.
What inspired you to become successful?
My success was inspired by my ambition to help make the world a better place. I grew up idolizing superheroes and always wanted to be a hero of my own. That’s why I found the courage within myself to pursue a life on my terms that’s also all about serving people and putting a smile on their face.
If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?
For someone who’s just starting out, I would first advise you to get clear of what you want. You can’t hit a target if you don’t have one. Clarity is power. Start by defining what exactly you want. If Santa Claus showed up to your door and asked you what is the perfect life you desire, what would you say? Once you know exactly what you want and why you want it then it’s time to take massive action and if it doesn’t work out, then change your approach. The most successful people of all time are successful because they knew exactly what they wanted and were resilient enough to persevere through their obstacles in order to make their dreams a reality.
What are your main tips for a successful habit?
Creating a schedule and using an agenda have been one of the biggest contributors to my success. By outlining my day beforehand I’m able to maximize my productivity because I never have to question what needs to be done. I plan out everything I need to get done the day before and when I wake up in the morning it’s as if I’m a freight train that can’t be stopped.
The most successful habit I have is priming my energy. Energy is life. You look at the most successful athletes of all time such as Lebron James, Serena Williiams, Muhammed Ali, etc. and if you check their energy before a match it’s unparalleled to anything you’ve ever seen. I treat myself like one of the greats so I start my mornings by listening to music, going over my goals, and getting my body primed for the rest of my day in order to maintain a superhuman state.
It takes a lot for someone to achieve your level of success. To what do you attribute your win?
I attribute my success to many things. My mother, my relationships, my upbringing, and my energy. My mother contributed to my success because mothers tend to be the most selfless people in the world and my mom was no different. Seeing how far she was willing to go to make her kids happy inspired me to live my life in service of others. My relationships have played a huge part in my success because your network is your net worth. It’s not about who you are, it’s about who you know and by continuously serving my relationships I’ve been able to be connected to major opportunities that have resulted in the success I’ve achieved today.
My upbringing played a huge role in my success because being born with a condition that affects 1% of the population I’ve been judged, bullied, and hated on my whole life. But there came a time when I started to value my opinion of myself over the opinions of others and this has allowed me to truly be free. Now I’m immune to hate and judgement because I’ve built up such a level of belief in myself that it doesn’t matter what the world says, I know who I am and what I’m about and that’s all that matters. That mentality was always available to me but I had to go through the pain for feeling like I’m not good enough and now I’m untouchable and that is why I’m successful – because I believe in myself. The only person stopping you, is you.
