MyPoints: Make Money From Your Couch

There seems to be so much money floating around in the world. Grants are given to the most obscure of academic topics, manufacturing giants are constantly bailed out for the most outrageous sums, and state-of-the-art aircraft carriers now cost upwards of $12.8 billion.

So how do we get a piece of this enormous pie? Yeah, you can go to work, commit yourself to a kind of rewarding drudgery; we all do that – but is there a way to make money on the side that does not require a special education or subterfuge? Robo advisors, like SoFi or Betterment, are an option – but is there not anything else?

MyPoints is one of those options for people looking to make a little extra cash. Not time intensive, it can be perfect for the post covid homebody.

Founded in 1996 in the modest state of Delaware, MyPoints has the pedigree to assure even the most tepid of potential users. We are all on the lookout for scams; I mean, money does not grow on trees – there is nothing free in this world, right?  But MyPoints, as Modest Money’s review points out, is a legitimate money-making option.

With a plethora of ways in which to earn points, MyPoints can be paired with any sort of passive activity. Think about it: watching a movie? Fill out a few surveys in the meantime. In the lull of a dull Sunday morning? Play a few sponsored mobile games. The possibilities are nearly endless. And while MyPoints does not possess get-rich-quick potential, a dollar here and a dollar there is better than nothing.

Beer money. Lunch money. Perhaps your child’s weekly allowance – these things add up, and a little side hustle like MyPoints can fill the gap. Redeemable as gift cards or cash, with a little diligent effort your account can add up, albeit slowly.

Is MyPoints worth it? I think it depends on who you ask. Regardless, we think it is one of the best, if not the best, rewards services out there.

Let’s take a look at some of MyPoints most glowing features.

MyPoints Key Features

  • Daily Deals: this is a neat little feature that highlights “time sensitive” opportunities for earning greater points. Instead of fishing around the application trying to find the best ways to accrue points, Daily Deals tells you what to do, and when you need to do it. This allows users to maximize their time.
  • Score Browser Bar: a plugin which is compatible with all the most popular of browsers, including Firefox, Chrome, and Edge, MyPoints Score Browser Bar conveniently syncs up with all purchases made through said browser. This means that you simultaneously earn points while shopping for things you need. While the amounts of points may not be overly significant, at least you are getting something in the meanwhile. Think of it as “killing two birds with one stone”.
  • MyPoints Payout: getting paid from your MyPoints activity is fairly simple. The main ways that you earn points is by completing surveys, watching videos, playing games, reading emails, and shopping online. This does not really sound like work, right? These are the kind of fun, engaging things we do on our downtime anyway, so why not benefit monetarily from it? Minimum withdraws are $25, but there is no clearance period.

Downsides to MyPoints

MyPoints is certainly not a quick fix to serious financial problems. Nor is it a perfect rewards points platform; in fact, it has a few glaring flaws that need to be accounted for.

  • Daily Points Cap: this means that no matter how industrious one is, there is only so much that can be made through MyPoints. It’s a shame, for some people, especially during the pandemic, have a lot of time on their hands, creating a real window for reaping this sort of “passive” income. We really wish there was no cap.
  • Region Availability: most of the lucrative offers are only available to citizens of the United States and Canada.

Final Thoughts

A lot of these “reward” websites are bogus, or at the very least, pay in peanuts. But MyPoints, one of the longest-running award sites in the world, has the kind of legit pedigree that you can trust. It’s been rewarding users for over 25 years, and there are no signs of slowing down.

That said, it’s not going to make you rich. It’s not even going to pay the bills, if we are entirely honest. What engaging with MyPoints can do is “top things off” – in a nutshell, any little bit can help in these troubled economic times.

We’ve found that MyPoints has a very attractive and intuitive interface, and there is a mobile application for both iOS and Android devices.

Get started today – at the very least it’s a couple extra beers or a bottle of lovely red for the upcoming get together or day off.
