“Mnr GR Kruger, Chairman of InternetDAT Connect.”
For years, South Africa has been left behind. Fibre doesn’t reach the farms. LTE is unreliable. And Starlink – the world’s most advanced satellite internet system – is not yet officially available in the country.
But one company has found a way.
InternetDAT Connect, led by Chairman Mnr GR Kruger, has developed the RegionChip – a small piece of hardware that is quietly revolutionising connectivity across countries that are restricted to use Starlink in Africa.
The Man Behind the Mission
Mnr GR Kruger is not your typical tech executive. Born and raised in Stellenbosch, he left South Africa as a young man to study engineering in China.
For over a decade, he worked alongside engineers who had built systems for major global satellite companies.
“I saw what was possible,” Kruger says. “I knew that one day, I would bring that technology home.”
He returned with a vision: to connect the unconnected. He assembled a team of engineers from China, USA, and South Africa. Together, they spent years developing a solution that would work within the regulatory framework while still giving South Africans access to world-class satellite internet.
That solution is the RegionChip.
What Is the RegionChip?
“The RegionChip – a breakthrough in satellite connectivity.”
The RegionChip is a small, custom-engineered module installed inside the Starlink dish by InternetDAT engineers. It is no bigger than a SIM card, but its impact is massive.
Starlink uses GPS to determine where a dish is located. If the dish is in a country where Starlink is not yet licensed, the system blocks the connection.
The RegionChip intercepts that GPS signal and securely redirects it to a nearby country where Starlink is fully approved – such as Mozambique, Botswana, Eswatini, or Lesotho etc
The result? Starlink’s servers believe the dish is operating legally in a neighbouring country. The user gets full, unrestricted, high-speed internet. No VPN. No software hacks. Just a clean, hardware-level solution.
“We didn’t want to build a workaround,” says Kruger. “We wanted to build a proper engineering solution. The RegionChip is not a hack. It is a precision tool.”
The chip is compatible with all Starlink models – the Mini, the Gen 2, and the Gen 3. It is installed by us. Once it is in, the user is online permanently.
A WebApp That Puts You in Control
InternetDAT Connect has also launched a companion WebApp that allows users to monitor their connection, check their region status, and receive real-time updates. The WebApp shows users exactly which gateway their dish is connected to, the signal strength, and the current speed. It is simple, clean, and built for everyday South Africans – not just tech experts. Check https://app.internetdat.com

Changing Lives
For Johan van der Merwe, a farmer in the Free State, the RegionChip changed everything.
“I run a 2,000-hectare farm,” he says. “My children couldn’t study online. My wife couldn’t run her business. We were cut off. InternetDAT Connect installed the RegionChip and a Starlink kit. Within a week, we had 500Mbps internet. My kids are now studying at UNISA. My wife’s business is booming.”
For Sarah Botha, who runs a game lodge in Mpumalanga, the chip meant the difference between closing and thriving.
“Our guests expect Wi-Fi,” she says. “Now we have it. Our bookings have doubled. The RegionChip saved our business.”
InternetDAT Connect has already installed the RegionChip in hundreds of homes, farms, and businesses across South Africa. The company sponsors local rugby teams, supports school sports days, and donates to community food drives.
“We are not just a tech company,” says Kruger. “We are a community company. We believe in South Africa. And we believe that everyone deserves to be connected.”
The Future
InternetDAT Connect is not stopping here. The company is already working on the next generation of the RegionChip – a version that will support even faster speeds and more countries.
“Our goal is to connect the entire continent,” says Kruger. “From Cape Town to Cairo. We want to be the bridge between Africa and the world.”
For now, the focus is on a few African countries. The company is expanding its teams, training more technicians, and preparing for its biggest launch yet.
“We are ready,” says Kruger. “The RegionChip is ready. Restricted Africans are ready. Let’s connect.”
Get Connected
If you are tired of slow internet, unreliable connections, and being left behind, InternetDAT Connect has the solution. The RegionChip is available now. Fully insured. For those who already have restricted Starlink’s they must buy a dish from us that’s already installed with the chip.
