In the project that MAGISNAT (www.magisnat.com) is carrying out, following in the footsteps of the innovative Dr Achille Bertelli, natural molecules are not the only protagonists, but at the base there is a broader and more articulated vision.
MAGISNAT’s overriding goal is to bring well-being to people, and it is trying to achieve this goal on several fields (https://magisnat-rd.com/second-week-of-march-2023/).
First, it should be specified that the focus of all the activities of this innovative spin-off is the Mediterranean diet (https://www.jpmh.org/index.php/jpmh/article/view/2745/1009).
The Mediterranean diet is the most widely known and studied dietary pattern worldwide.
It differs from other diets because it involves the consumption of a wide variety of foods, such as extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), legumes, cereals, nuts, fruits, vegetables, and fish, plus meat (preferably white meat), dairy products and wine in really limited quantities.
The intake of all these foods is essential, because these provide various phytonutrients, including polyphenols and vitamins that play an essential role in the human body.
Many studies have shown that this kind of diet, along with moderate levels of physical activity and strong social relationships, is a key factor in promoting a healthy lifestyle and in preventing many chronic diseases. In particular, among the diseases it prevents we can find: diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, aging disorders. This is all due to the fact that this nutritional pattern has lipolytic, anti-cancer, antimicrobial, and antioxidative effects on the human body.
For these reasons, MAGISNAT decided to promote the Mediterranean diet through numerous activities.
In particular, MAGISNAT’s professors and researchers have focused on solving a strong problem that is slowly spreading among the population, namely nutritional and vitamin deficiencies. This problem stems from the fact that daily life has become hectic and stressful, so people no longer have time to cook and indulge in a balanced meal.
MAGISNAT is aware of this; in fact, it is important for this spin-off to continue exploring the molecular mechanisms through which the Mediterranean diet exerts its protective effects, and to standardize its components and portion sizes, in order to more accurately understand its effects on human health.
In addition to promoting the Mediterranean diet, MAGISNAT is also working on several other initiatives to improve people’s well-being. One of the most important of these initiatives is the development of natural products based on the principles of the Mediterranean diet, such as polyphenols and other phytonutrients found in fruits and vegetables.
MAGISNAT’s researchers are exploring the potential of these natural products to prevent and treat various diseases. For example, they are studying the effects of polyphenols on inflammation, oxidative stress, and the immune system. These studies could lead to the development of new treatments for a range of conditions, including cancer, heart disease, and neurodegenerative disorders.
Another key area of focus for MAGISNAT is personalized nutrition. By analyzing an individual’s genetics, lifestyle, and medical history, MAGISNAT’s experts can develop customized dietary plans that optimize health and prevent disease. This approach is becoming increasingly important as the field of precision medicine continues to advance.
MAGISNAT is also committed to promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship. The Mediterranean diet is inherently sustainable, as it emphasizes the consumption of locally sourced, seasonal foods. MAGISNAT is working to further reduce the environmental impact of food production by developing sustainable farming practices and promoting the use of renewable energy sources.
Overall, MAGISNAT’s work is driven by a passion for improving people’s lives and promoting global well-being. By focusing on the Mediterranean diet, natural products, personalized nutrition, and sustainability, MAGISNAT is making important contributions to the fields of nutrition, health, and environmental science.
All this is to find innovative, cutting-edge solutions that will lead to the achievement of a global well-being.
