Press Release

Lifebulb Expands Insurance Coverage to Include Medicare, Making Therapy More Accessible for Clients

Lifebulb Counseling and Therapy, a leading mental health therapy platform, is pleased to announce that it now accepts Medicare insurance. This expansion of coverage is in line with our mission of helping clients live brighter lives by providing cost-effective therapy sessions with highly trained and qualified therapists. We believe that good therapists make great therapy, and by adding Medicare to our list of accepted insurances, we hope to connect more people with the therapists who are right for them.

This decision to accept Medicare insurance comes as a response to the growing need for accessible mental health services. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly one in five adults in the United States lives with a mental illness. However, many individuals struggle to access therapy due to financial constraints. By accepting Medicare, Lifebulb is taking a step towards breaking down these barriers and making therapy more affordable for those who need it.

At Lifebulb, we understand the importance of finding the right therapist. That’s why we have a rigorous screening process to ensure that all therapists on our platform are highly qualified and experienced. By expanding our insurance coverage to include Medicare, we hope to connect more clients with the therapists who are best suited to their needs. This will not only improve the quality of therapy sessions but also make the entire process more convenient and affordable for our clients.

Lifebulb is committed to making mental health care more accessible and affordable for all. We are excited to now offer Medicare coverage in all of our states: Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

We believe that this will have a positive impact on the lives of our clients. We encourage anyone seeking therapy to visit our website and explore the wide range of therapists and services we offer. Together, we can work towards a brighter and healthier future for all.

Does Medicare Cover Mental Health Therapy?

Yes! Under the 2008 Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, major insurance companies are required to cover mental health and substance abuse conditions as much as they do surgical and medical needs. What this means for you depends on your insurance and plan, so always check with your insurance.

Most Medicare plans cover:

  • Depression Screening: It’s recommended to undergo one depression screening test annually, and it can be conducted at a primary care doctor’s office or clinic. These screenings are crucial in identifying symptoms early and ensuring appropriate follow-up treatment and referrals are in place.
  • Psychotherapy Services: Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, is a cornerstone of mental health therapy. This effective treatment method helps address mental health disorders and promotes healing and growth in a supportive environment. It can be conducted in individual and group settings.
  • Family Counseling: If family counseling can aid in your individual treatment journey, Medicare will cover your portion of it. Including family members in the therapy process can be beneficial for overall healing and well-being.
  • Psychiatric Evaluation: Psychiatrists provide psychiatric evaluations to diagnose and manage medications for mental health. This step is crucial in developing a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.
  • Medication Management: For individuals who may benefit from medication as part of their treatment plan, Medicare covers medication management services. The goal is to ensure that medication is prescribed and monitored appropriately to support your mental health.
  • Yearly Wellness Checks: It’s essential to prioritize your mental well-being with yearly wellness checks. Regular check-ins allow you to monitor your progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and provide ongoing support on your path to wellness.

Lifebulb offers all except medication management. We have Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) who can diagnose and treat most mental health disorders.

How much does therapy cost with medicare at Lifebulb?

Although costs are generally greatly reduced, therapy sessions are not free with Medicare. However, Medicare can help pay therapy fees, often resulting in a lower cost compared to paying out of pocket or with other private insurance plans. It’s essential to note that you must still meet your deductible and pay a copay, just like with other insurances.

The cost of therapy services largely depends on multiple factors such as the type of Medicare plan you have, if you have any additional insurance plans, and whether you’ve paid your deductible or not.

Medicaid specifies that after you pay your yearly Part B deductible, you will pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount for visits related to diagnosing or treating your mental health condition. The Medicare- approved amount varies based on the type of services you need.

If you’d like to have a good-faith estimate, please reach out to our support team. We’re happy to discuss the specifics of your Medicaid plan and the type of therapy services you need and provide you with an estimate.
