Leading a Credit Revolution: How Surya Pochareddy Is on a Mission to Help Consumers Take Control with CreditBuilderIQ

In an era of rising costs and economic uncertainty, maintaining good credit is essential for financial well-being. Yet for millions of consumers, understanding how to build and protect credit remains confusing, time-consuming, and costly, making it often out of reach. Tackling this challenge head-on is Surya Pochareddy, Executive Vice President, Strategy and General Manager, Credit Services Products at IDIQ.

Through his leadership, IDIQ launched CreditBuilderIQ, an innovative credit management platform designed to reshape how people understand, manage, build, and strengthen their credit profiles. TechBullion sat down with Pochareddy to learn more about what inspired CreditBuilderIQ, how it’s different from other tools, and what’s next for this fast-growing product.

What inspired the launch of CreditBuilderIQ? What gap in the credit services market were you aiming to address?

We saw millions of consumers struggling with slow, expensive, or incomplete credit tools – and lending professionals eager to help but lacking the best resources.

For IDIQ’s team of data, credit, and consumer financial health experts, this opportunity to create the leading consumer credit building tool, while increasing the lender-consumer connection, was one we felt positioned to lead.

How does CreditBuilderIQ differentiate itself from other credit monitoring and building tools currently available to consumers?

Most tools are generic or light on features, or their primary aim is to monetize consumers via loan offers.

Every consumer benefit CreditBuilderIQ has is geared towards optimizing consumers’ credit profiles. That means tailored guidance, versus generic. That means combining the best credit tools in the market into one – action plans, inaccuracy reviews, rent and utility payment reporting, and more. That means only surfacing offers that are aligned with credit goals, no spam.

What are the biggest misconceptions people have about building their credit? How does CreditBuilderIQ help overcome them?

Many think paying off debt or avoiding credit is best – it’s not that simple. We help users understand the nuances, like the right utilization ratio (FYI – 0% isn’t always best), or how to handle collections.

These are niche topics that can have material impact to credit profiles, and we enable our consumers to navigate these topics like experts.

Can you provide insight into some of the key features or tools within CreditBuilderIQ that you’re most excited about?

We started with a personalized gameplan and credit report inaccuracy review based on in-house logic, which is powerful, and we continually adjust this logic based on the latest data and market trends. We also recently rolled out rent and utility payment reporting – turning everyday bills into positive payment history.

On rent and utility payment reporting specifically, the FHFA, which oversees Freddie and Fannie, announced in July 2025 that they would accept scoring models that factor in these bills.

What role does education play in the CreditBuilderIQ experience? How do you help users understand and take control of their credit health?

Education is baked in. As users move through the platform, we explain what matters and why.

We’re also exploring ways to tackle root credit issues – like budgeting, debt management, income, via additional education tools and features.

How does CreditBuilderIQ stay ahead of emerging trends and consumer needs in the credit industry?

It really comes down to experience, expertise, and network. We’ve served over five million consumers and thousands of business partners across IDIQ’s suite of products, giving us broad and unique insights, which we leverage to inform product building.

Adding to that, our team is comprised of experts in data and credit, many with decades of industry experience.

Further, we have great relationships with data providers in the space, including the three major credit bureaus, and we’re able to productize our unique insights for consumer benefit.

What impact have you seen so far from CreditBuilderIQ on customers’ credit scores or financial well-being? Any success stories you can share?

Absolutely. One user saw a score increase of 87 points post-divorce and started seeing benefits in the first month.

Another young entrepreneur used CreditBuilderIQ to prep for business loan applications. These wins are why we do what we do.

How does CreditBuilderIQ fit into IDIQ’s broader mission and suite of financial and identity protection products?

IDIQ helps consumers stay informed, build, and protect their financial profiles. CreditBuilderIQ is a natural extension – turning awareness into credit-building action.

How does CreditBuilderIQ implement AI tools? With AI and fintech evolving rapidly, what innovations do you see shaping the future of credit building and monitoring — and how is CreditBuilderIQ preparing for them?

Our platform uses a rules-based engine and AI-enhanced analytics to deliver smarter plans. As personal finance agents evolve, we’re building towards a true credit co-pilot experience.

In today’s economy how important is it to stay on top of your credit and maintain a good credit score?

Bad credit can cost you over $7K a year – or block you from getting credit at all. In today’s high-cost world, good credit isn’t optional, it’s integral for financial security.

Finally, what’s next for CreditBuilderIQ? Are there new features, partnerships, or growth plans you can share?

We launched in 2024, and are expanding rapidly, with material new feature rollouts every quarter. In terms of partnerships, we see material opportunity with both influencers and consumer lenders, to meet users where they are – when they’re ready to build credit.

A mission built for the future of credit

For Surya Pochareddy and his team, this is just the beginning of a credit revolution that puts power back in the hands of consumers.
