Istanbul Hosts Huawei’s Eighth ICT Competition Europe.

Where was the Huawei Eighth ICT Competition Europe held?

The ICT infrastructure and smart devices company Huawei, said on Sunday in a post that its eighth information and communication technology competition Europe 2023-2024 was held in Istanbul, Turkey, on April 25. The aim of the competition was to increase young students’ ICT knowledge and practical skills. More than 200 college and university students, academics, government officials, KOLs, and media from more than 10 countries and regions in Europe attended the event, Huawei said.

Jim Lu, President of the European Region and Senior Vice President of Huawei, said in the opening speech that the Huawei ICT Competition started in 2015.  

“Over the past eight years, more than 700,000 outstanding individuals have participated in this competition. Huawei is in Europe, for Europe. Huawei highly values talent and plan to train 100,000 people in the coming five years, to help them realize their full potential,” Jim said.

Soledad Patiño, Coordinator of the UNESCO Global Skills Academy, said that “Initiatives like the Huawei ICT Academy and Huawei ICT Competition contribute to our goal of bridging the digital divide and nurturing individuals and communities to thrive in an ever-evolving landscape where digital skills are indispensable.”

Tide Xu, Chief Strategy Officer of Huawei Europe, told the audience “that low-carbon development and intelligent transformation are the megatrends driving the industry forward, and ICT technology is the key enabler of Intelligent World”. 

He added, “Huawei provides mechanisms such as ICT competitions, talent job fairs and Seeds for the Future to promote talent value. At the same time, in order to bridge the digital divide, Huawei launched TECH4ALL in 2019, a long-term digital inclusion initiative,” Tide said.

 About the ICT Competition

Huawei said that the competition theme was “Connection, Glory, Future” and  The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Türkiye, the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Istanbul, and other important guests delivered opening speeches and presented awards to winning teams, while Keynote speeches were delivered by representatives from the UNESCO Global Skills Academy and Professor of Università Politecnica delle Marche.

More than 700 students from 22 countries and over 100 universities in Europe participated in the competition, which was divided into four tracks: AI innovation, Networking, Cloud, and Computing. Teams from Türkiye MEF University, Poznan University of Technology from Poland, K Labs in Italy, and Erzurum University of Technology in Türkiye received the first prizes, and some of these winning teams from the European Region will participate in the Global Finals in Shenzhen, China, in May, the report said.
