The breadth of Info Călan’s coverage can be seen in the people and subjects featured on the site.
Its biographical articles cover figures from politics, literature, medicine, science and other fields. Recent subjects include Iuliu Maniu, one of the leading Romanian political figures of the first half of the 20th century, poet George Bacovia, physician and academic Carol Stanciu, and engineer, industrialist and numismatist Constantin C. Orghidan. The site also features articles on Corneliu Coposu and other figures from Romanian history and culture.
National and international news now appears alongside biographies and articles on political history, literature, science, archaeology and cultural heritage.
Technology has also become a significant part of the site’s coverage. A dedicated History of Technology section includes articles on the origins of the internet, the development of computers and the history of Microsoft.
One article traces the development of the internet from ARPANET and TCP/IP to the World Wide Web. Others look at the evolution of computing from mechanical calculating machines to microprocessors and personal computers. One of them is its cultural heritage atlas, which brings together information on historic monuments, archaeological sites and other places of cultural significance. The project began with locations in Hunedoara County and has since expanded to include other sites in Transylvania.
The atlas complements the publication’s coverage of historic churches, castles, archaeological sites, monuments and museum collections. Instead of presenting each place only through a separate article, it brings the entries together in a single digital resource that can grow as new locations are added.
Another project, Enciclopedia Istoria Presei, focuses on the history of journalism, journalists, newspapers and media institutions. It adds to the site’s growing collection of reference material alongside biographies and historical articles.
Info Călan has also expanded its technology-related coverage and developed an Android application. Readers can find current reports on artificial intelligence, computing or communications alongside articles on the origins of the internet and the development of personal computers.
