Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Wins 2024 World Performance Car Award

The Automotive Manufacturing Company Hyundai, on Thursday revealed that it has won the World Car Awards with the IONIQ 5 N high-performance electric vehicle (EV). The car was named the 2024 World Performance Car in New York. This is the company’s fourth major world car award win in the last three years.

Jaehoon Chang, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design, said that they are honored to receive the prestigious world performance car award for our IONIQ 5 N.

“We are thrilled and honored to receive the prestigious World Performance Car Award for our IONIQ 5 N. This recognition is a testament to Hyundai’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric performance and innovation. It is truly gratifying to see our efforts rewarded with a total of seven World Car Awards titles in the last three years. We are proud to continue our winning streak and solidify Hyundai’s position as a leader in the global EV industry,” he said.

What are the World Car Awards?

The World Car Awards are a yearly event that sees 100 international jurors across 29 countries test-drive and vote on World Car Design, World Luxury Car, World Performance Car, World Urban Car, World Electric Vehicle, and World Car of the Year.

The World Car Awards was inaugurated in 2003 and officially launched in January 2004.

The inaugural jurors were: Mike Allen (USA), Peter Burgess (UK), Charley Chae (Korea), JooSik Choi (Korea), Robert Collin (Sweden), Matt Davis (Italy), Xia Dong (China), Ken Gibson (UK), Greg Kable (Germany), Jorge Koechlin (USA/Peru), Peter Lyon (Japan), Marco Marelli (Italy), John McCormick (USA), Maciej Pertynski (Poland), John Rettie (USA), Hormazd Sorabjee (India), and Juergen Zoellter (Germany).

The World Car Awards announced the winners of this year’s competition at a ceremony during the 2024 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). According to the report, Hyundai brand’s IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 have won back-to-back three victories. In 2022 and 2023, the brands won awards in the World Car, World Electric Vehicle, and World Car Design categories.

IONIQ 5 N was introduced in July 2023 as Hyundai N’s first electric vehicle. It represents a new segment of driver-focused high-performance EVs through new technologies and elevated racetrack capability, signaling the first step in N’s electrification strategy.
