How Would You Define the Area of Rectangle?

Rectangle

The area is defined as the region which is covered by the geometrical figure. A rectangle is a distinct type of quadrilateral which is two-dimensional in shape.

The rectangle is a structure that has four sides, the length of the rectangle is equal in measurement while the breadth acting as two sides of the rectangle is equal in measurement. The two opposite sides of this quadrilateral are parallel to each other and hence this is also known as a parallelogram. Each of the angles of the triangle is 90 degrees. All these features were important to discuss as we will understand better the area of rectangle

So, what is the area of the rectangle? The Area of the rectangle is defined as the region which is occupied by the rectangle. The four sides act its boundaries, and the area encompassed in these boundaries is actually the area of the rectangle.

The Formula of the Area of the Rectangle

The mathematical formula of the area of the rectangle can be – Length X Breadth.

Or A = LB

Here A is the area of the rectangle and L and B is the length and breadth of the rectangle.

While, this is in contrast with the Perimeter of the rectangle, which is the sum of all its four sides. That is the measurement of the boundary. In one simpler way, we can say that Area measures the region encompassed in the boundary, while the Perimeter measures the length of the boundary.

Steps in Calculating the Area of the Rectangle

Students are often asked in the examination about the area of the rectangle, which is pretty simple to solve. Hence, the steps which are involved in the calculation of the area of the rectangle are as follows:

Step 1 – Jot down the dimensions of the measurement of the length and width from the given question

Step 2 – Multiply the measurement of the length and the width after you find out the values.

Step 3 – Now write the final answer in square unit form.

What is the Perimeter of a Rectangle?

The perimeter of the rectangle is considered an important formula from the examination point of view. The perimeter of rectangle is an important feature of the properties of the rectangle.

As known, the perimeter of any figure represents the measurement of the boundary encompassing the figure. The rectangle has two sets of sides parallel to each other. Thus, the breadth and the length of the rectangle are the boundaries of the rectangle. We need to calculate the length of the boundary in regards to calculating the perimeter of the triangle.

The Perimeter of the Rectangle – Formula and Explanation

The perimeter of the rectangle is the total distance that is covered by the rectangular figure. As there are four sides in a rectangular figure, we need to calculate the measurement of each of the length and breadth of the figure in order to find the perimeter of the rectangle. Then the final answer should be in the unit which is given in the data or the question. The unit of the rectangle can be in meters, centimetres, inches, or in feet.

The Formula of the Rectangle

The formula of the rectangle is defined as the sum of all four sides. Thus, it can be represented as 2 X (Length + Breadth)

As we know that the opposite sides of the rectangle are equal in measurement thus, it will twice its length and breadth.

P = 2 (L + B)

Here, P is the perimeter, and L and B are the length and breadth of the rectangle.

Students must consider the perimeter of the rectangle as a fundamental study. Questions often are asked from this portion; hence they need to be shrewd in attempting the questions. Thus, as we come to the end of the discussion students are requested to practice the sums based on the area and perimeter of a rectangle.
