How To

How to innovate with the power of decentralized systems – Spotlight on Effective Innovation with Shinya Yamamoto, PhD

“I think we live in an era in which large companies and large-scale organizations are no longer sufficient to achieve social evolution. In the decentralized society of the future, the trend toward entrepreneurship, side hustles, and dual employment will accelerate. This is also the theme of my university research in Technology & Innovation Management, which is related to autonomous decentralized systems and organizations such as web3 and DAOs.”

Innovation is not intrinsic but always comes from contact with the external environment. Similarly, evolution is not inevitable but results from the preservation of mechanisms born out of errors that always occur with a certain probability.

Passion for Autonomous Decentralized System

Earlier this year, Dr. Yamamoto opened the “DICT CUBE TOKYO” innovation cafe in Yoyogi, Shibuya-ku. His new business of incubation fuses domestic and international, industry and academia. Using the autonomous decentralized organization (DAO) concept, he is creating an “experience-based DAO platform” for participants that will eventually become a real social network. The brand name DICT stands for Design, Innovation, Co-Creation, Technology. Under the slogan of “Crossing Borders, Co-Creation, Disruption, and Creation,” DICT aims to be a resonant place for innovators.

Leadership and organizational systems need to be redefined to make management a group responsibility rather than a traditional top-down approach. By enabling self-organization, flat organizations enable high intrinsic motivation, which increases member satisfaction.

“We live in an era in which large companies and large-scale organizations are no longer sufficient to achieve social evolution. In the decentralized society of the future, the trend toward entrepreneurship, side hustles, and dual employment will accelerate. This is also the theme of my university research in Technology & Innovation Management, which is related to autonomous decentralized systems and organizations such as web3 and DAOs.”

His Goals for Future Endeavors

Dr. Yamamoto is working on making a decentralized society on an individual level. Currently developing the Metaverse of DICT CUBE TOKYO, Dr. Yamamoto is on the way to making the digital twin a reality in this community. He and DICT CUBE TOKYO are looking to build a small economic zone with NFT Products and real product galleries and tokens. They aim to create a platform where many projects can be launched, and startups can be founded.

Conclusion

In his company, DICT CUBE TOKYO, all participants are recruited through social media and word of mouth. With more early adopters and followers following DICT CUBE, a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) has slowly formed. According to Dr. Yamamoto, DICT CUBE TOKYO is indispensable in today’s highly uncertain world, and the creation of self-organized projects through DAOs is the very concept of DICT CUBE TOKYO. He is now actively promoting business through DAOs with entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley, etc., and he wishes to see this approach spread across  Japan.
