HGV Licence Classes
Different commercial vehicles have different weights. Therefore, you get different license categories based on how much a vehicle weighs and the additional weight it can pull when a trailer is attached. We offer four primary licenses in our HGV driver training. Have a look at the four main HGV categories you can choose from;
- Cat C1
This is the smallest type of vehicle in the HGV training course. It is ideal for vehicles between 3500kg and 7500kg with trailers up to 750kg.
- Cat C1+E
This license allows you to drive vehicles between 3500kg and 7500kg with trailers over 750kg.
- Cat C
Ideal for vehicles above 7500kg with trailers up to 750kg
- Cat C+E
This is the largest type of HGV vehicle, weighing more than 7500kg and supporting trailers of over 750kg.
Requirements to Start HGV Driver Training
- Be 18+ years old
- Have a valid UK car license. If your car license is non-UK, you can transfer it to the UK.
- Medical Test
Your health is always a priority. Before starting your HGV driver training, you must pass a medical exam to ensure you don’t have any medical conditions.
- Theory Test
You will need to pass a theory test before starting practical skill tests. Our training team will guide you through theory training and the steps of the test, and you, therefore, don’t need to worry.
- Practical Training
Upon completing your theory training and getting the test results from the DVSA, it’s time to train in an actual HGV vehicle. Our team will help you get your practical training booked once ready.
- Driver CPC Training
Having passed your practical exam, you are legally qualified to drive an HGV. You can still consider taking a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) to help you drive professionally.
