How Is AI Taking Over Creative Fields

AI Creative Fields

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to significantly impact society in the future, influencing various aspects of our lives. Specifically, AI is making notable contributions to literature, design, and music.

In this article, we will take a look at the contributions of AI in creative fields and how such algorithms are helping to push the boundaries of machine-related assistance in artistic industries.

Literature

Interestingly, human writers have been seen to be collaborating creatively with AI in their writing. AI-generated prompts can serve as a source of inspiration for writers. By providing unique and unexpected ideas, AI can help writers overcome creative blocks, explore new directions, and spark their imagination.

AI can even emulate the precise style and characteristics of specific writers. PIA reported that 51% of readers couldn’t identify AI-generated literary quotes to those from famous authors. This demonstrates the persuasive and powerful role of AI in the writing industry. If AI can assist writers in producing quality content in a fraction of the time, surely AI only benefits literary applications, no?

Well, it’s not that simple. While AI offers benefits in terms of increased work efficiency and creative inspiration, it is important to note that human authors’ unique creativity, emotions, and perspectives remain an essential part of the literary world. AI should only support human creativity and never be used to replace the craftsmanship of genuine writers.

Music

AI algorithms have also been used to compose music in various genres and styles in the music industry. They can generate melodies, harmonies, and even entire musical compositions.

Indeed, rappers such as Drake have been seen to use the technology to simulate the voice of Michael Jackson onto one of his album tracks, ‘Don’t Matter To Me.’ MTV reported how Rob Stringer, the Sony executive, warned fans that other gems might also be ‘unearthed individually’ after the success of Drake’s track release with Jackson. Stringer goes on to state how AI algorithms are shifting strategies in music from big album releases to ‘one-off songs.’

Despite high amounts of praise from Drake’s fans, the incorporation of AI in the music industry has sparked debates on ethical considerations. Critics argue that using AI to simulate the voices or create new compositions for deceased artists raises questions about authenticity, artist integrity, and the intentions of the artist themselves.  Who’s to say Jackson would have wanted to collaborate with Drake? Although hearing Jackson’s sweet melodic harmonies over Drake’s modern bars may sound great for some, the legacy is now tarnished for others.

Design

Last but not least, and arguably the most ethical of the three, AI can assist in design tasks.

For example, AI algorithms can generate logos, website layouts, interior designs, or fashion designs. Designers can leverage AI tools to explore new possibilities, streamline workflows, and generate alternative design options. UX Collective has highlighted how in its current state, AI is helping designers create better visuals at a quicker pace. This accelerates the design process, reduces time to market, and facilitates designers in creating impactful and meaningful designs.  Therefore, such technology can only be beneficial as it helps designers earn more money in less time.

A Human Touch Should Never Be Replaced

All in all, AI is significantly contributing to creative fields such as literature, music, and design. Specifically, inspiration and enhanced efficiency are two of the main driving factors behind using AI algorithms in design and literature. While in the music industry, AI is paving the way for new artistic expressions and personalized music experiences.

Despite such benefits, it’s important to note that AI should only be considered as a helping hand and never a replacement for the authentic human touch. Striking a balance between AI and human involvement while maintaining ethical standards will be crucial for leveraging AI’s potential and ensuring its positive impact on the creative industries.
