Hillstone Networks helps both small and big enterprises secure their web applications and defend their online infrastructures against cyberattacks with outstanding technology made possible with the help of artificial intelligence. The Co-founder and CTO of Hillstone Tim Liu will be telling us more in this interview with TechBullion.
Please tell us a little more about yourself?
My name is Tim Liu, Co-founder and CTO of Hillstone Network and I am a veteran in the cybersecurity market working with Fortune 500 enterprises and data centers to proactively defend cyberattacks at a global level. Hillstone Networks has more than 20,000 customers combating cyber threats so my position is working with them around the clock to thwart attacks, meet compliance and protect their IP.
What is Hillstone Networks and what unique services do you provide?
Hillstone Networks provides customers with comprehensive risk mitigation and infrastructure protection across all enterprise locations. We offer products and solutions in Edge, Cloud, Server, and Application Protection, as well as Security Management. We help our customers by providing the visibility and intelligence to comprehensively see, thoroughly understand, and rapidly act against multilayer, multistage cyberthreats.
Our security product suite includes NGFW, breach detection, SD-WAN along with VM and cloud security.
What is the current market size of cyber security and how is Hillstone’s AI influencing cybersecurity in particular?
In aggregate, Gartner predicts that global security and risk management spending will exceed $150 billion this year. With respect to AI influencing cybersecurity, while it’s still an emerging technology under development, it will have the largest impact. There are different types of AI use cases within security: fraud, authentication, malware detection, analyst visualization, attack detection, and prevention. Our primary focus from these categories is AI for malware detection (what we have done in ATD) and AI for attack detection (ABD), and AI for analyst visualization (iSource).
What type of cyberattacks are businesses facing today?
Businesses face a variety of cyberthreats on a daily basis. Top threats include data leaks, ransomware and DDoS; these are end goals for hackers. Top attack vectors include malware, phishing and password attacks; these are ways that hackers attempt to get in.
You have incorporated Artificial Intelligence into your solution. What level of insight does this give companies?
AI technology improves cyber security automation. It can assist in threat hunting, enrich forensic evidence, improve detection accuracy, reduce false positives, automate response ticketing, and streamline incident response workflows. This relieves security teams from tedious and routine tasks and allows them to focus on threat resolution and other business-critical activities.
What challenges has the Coronavirus pandemic brought to Hillstone Networks and your clients, what solutions are you giving to these challenges?
COVID-19 forced many companies to quickly adopt remote operations. The challenge for them was not only securing remote access to the corporate network, but also cloud-based services. Hillstone’s proven product suite includes NGFW, breach detection, SD-WAN as well as VM and cloud security and can be customized to meet the specific security needs of enterprises
Gartner has ranked you on their annual magic quadrant 7 years in a row. Why do you think you stand out?
Being recognized in the Magic Quadrant for 7 consecutive years speaks to our commitment to innovation and evolving our products to combat new threats. It is validation of our technology and reputation as a trusted leader in providing powerful solutions to protect enterprises from the threats they face each day. We continue to be well positioned in the Gartner quadrant and that’s a testament to our commitment and execution.
Hillstone Networks provides security solutions for SMB-large enterprises, could you share some of your success stories with us working with us?
Thousands of businesses rely on Hillstone Networks to protect them from the daily threat of cyberattacks. Our clients include major banks, data centers, universities, government agencies, and more. Our most recent case study showcases how Hillstone Networks is securing the world’s largest single-terminal airport.
What is next at Hillstone Networks, would you mind sharing any new products you are working on or any available opportunities for investors and partners at Hillstone Network?
Our latest offering is a standalone SD-WAN (software-defined wide area network) solution geared toward hybrid and mobile workforces that demand a secure networking infrastructure to remain productive. It is now part of our SASE solution in development that will support today’s distributed workforces and cloud services. In addition, for our Extended Detection and Response (XDR) solution, which is called iSource, the scope of data we are analyzing is expanding, from network traffic (NDR) to enterprise-wide data (endpoints, security events). We are also expanding our cloud security solutions with a newly released Container security product (CloudArmour).
