UMINERS (HK), a mining company and data centers operator, announced the building of a new data center in Ethiopia. The construction of the first line of mining capacities is currently underway and its launch is set for autumn 2024.
The initial phase is designed to accommodate a substantial 100 megawatts of power capacity, featuring the deployment of approximately 24,000 high-performance Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) miners. Among these, the facility will house the latest energy-effective equipment like Antminer S21, S21 Hydro, T21, and S19.
Ethiopia was picked as the location for UMINERS’ new facility due to its advantageous positioning, particularly its access to cost-effective and environmentally sustainable hydroelectric power, making it an ideal spot for efficient and eco-conscious cryptocurrency mining operations.
“The increasing complexity of mining necessitates greater investment in robust equipment. The industrial-scale mining for extracting the remaining bitcoins has never been more pertinent,” said Batyr Hydyrov, President of UMINERS. He added, “The battle for accessing sufficient electrical power is intensifying globally, as the slowdown in miner sales worldwide is mainly due to the scarcity of installation sites and available power capacity.”
According to the recent statistics, in 2023, Ethiopia ranked fourth behind the USA, Hong Kong, and Asia as one of the top destinations for Bitcoin mining rigs due to its mining-friendly legislation, energy potential, climate conditions, and competitive electricity rates.
Expanding to Ethiopia aligns with the UMINERS’ strategy of global expansion.
