ehsan pourshirazi discusses the latest innovations in dental implants for 2023

Dental implants are a modern solution to replacing lost or damaged teeth. For those looking for an alternative to traditional dentures, implants provide a permanent fix that can restore function and appearance. In 2023, the latest innovations in dental implants promise to make them even more effective. Dr. Ehsan Pourshirazi is the leading authority on dental implant technology and has recently released his outlook for the coming year.

According to Dr. Pourshirazi, the newest developments in dental implant technology focus on improved materials and techniques to make implants stronger and more durable than ever before. By combining advances in technology and materials, Dr. Pourshirazi hopes more people will be willing to take the step toward dental implants. Below are some of the latest developments in dental implants for 2023.

Improved Imaging and Planning

While older methods of dental implant installation relied on physical molds and other methods to plan for dental implants, current technology allows for more accurate imaging and planning. This improved accuracy means that the implants can be placed correctly and can last for years without any problems!

Dr. Pourshirazi says, “Unfortunately, many people fear complications from dental implants due to inaccurate planning. By using the most advanced imaging and planning methods, we can ensure that implants are placed perfectly and safely.”

Two of the newest methods for planning include DICOM and digital impressions known as STL.

DICOM, known as Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine, is a new software that takes a patient’s 3D images, x-rays, pertinent information, and other past medical histories with its team of specialists to ensure accuracy and provide a seamless experience.

Unfortunately, previous imaging techniques limited accuracy and precision due to faulty or missing patient information. Imagine needing a tooth replacement but not being able to provide an accurate picture of the original teeth and jaw. DICOM conquers this issue by providing a comprehensive view of the patient’s dental history, enabling doctors to plan accurately and safely.

In addition to DICOM, patient images are also available as STL, or stereolithography, files. This is a computer-aided design (CAD) format that 3D prints exact replicas of the patient’s mouth for surgeons to practice on and plan the implant placement. While STL is always developing, there’s no doubt that it will be a major player in 2023 when it comes to dental implants.

Improved Materials

Materials used for dental implants have come a long way, and now Titanium is the go-to material for implants. This lightweight yet strong metal is incredibly biocompatible and durable, making it the perfect choice for dental implants. Dr. Pourshirazi says, “Titanium is a great material for implants because it is incredibly strong, yet lightweight and non-reactive with the human body. Most people know of Titanium hip replacements, and it’s great for dental implants as well.”

In 2023, Titanium may be replaced by a new alloy called Zirconium Oxide. This material is even now popular for patients who want a metal-free option for their implants. However, the good news is that Zirconium Oxide has been tested and is also incredibly strong and biocompatible. While it might be less sturdy due to its reaction to heat, it’s still a viable option for people with tooth loss. Whatever materials are chosen for dental implants, the goal is always to make them as strong and biocompatible as possible.

Improved Surgical Techniques

Finally, Dr. Pourshirazi wants to highlight some of the newest improvements in surgical techniques when it comes to dental implant placement. With newer technologies come improved accuracy and precision, which are absolutely essential for successful dental implants. Dental implant placement is a delicate and exacting procedure, which means that surgeons must be extremely precise to ensure success.

New technologies such as computer-guided-implant surgery and technology and advanced navigation systems allow the surgeon to plan, design, and execute the surgery more accurately than ever before. This also reduces the amount of time needed for surgery and promotes a quicker recovery for the patient.

Using cone beam CT imaging for planning, the surgeon can precisely evaluate bone density and quality to determine where to place the implant. Cone beam CT imaging also helps the surgeon to determine the exact size, shape, and orientation of the implant based on each patient’s unique anatomy.

Overall, these innovations are making dental implants safer and more accurate than ever before. With the right materials, technology, and technique, 2023 will be an exciting year for dental implant placement! Dr. Pourshirazi is always looking forward to new advancements in dentistry so that he can provide the best possible care for his patients. With all these technological advancements, it’s easy to see why dental implants are becoming increasingly popular and successful! He encourages everyone to talk to their dentist about how these new innovations can give them a better smile and more confidence in the future.
